Toussaint to start vs. Bama

This is where you and I disagree. Having played team sports my whole life, when a player is suspended and it has a negative impact on the rest of the team, those players that are negatively impacted will tear into that player and make his life hell. It is often worse being ostracized from your teammates than anything that a coach could do to you otherwise.

How is that disagreeing with me? I have played team sports as well and I am sure the team has already tore into the player. I doubt they are waiting to find out the exact terms of the suspension. So then by your logic, a team would not "tear into that player" if the upcoming games were not big games?

if you choose cupcake games for the suspension then you arent really teaching that player a lesson like intended. pretty silly to choose what games the suspension is for.

missing a big game will have a much bigger impact on that player than missing east central catholic state game. maybe next time they'll think about the repercussions before making a stupid decision.

Is scheduling a crap school to start the season not "choosing a cupcake game for the suspension"? There are 8 months of off season, most problems happen during that time.

Look, don't get me wrong. IF most teams were not Pvssys and didn't schedule crap teams to start the season then it would not matter. In this case, a team that is not playing some FCS opponent to start the season will be punished because of their scheduling. The last thing I want is one more reason for a team to schedule a bs game to start the season.

  • This is an awful lot of bitching considering a decision has yet to be made. Interesting to see the OP hasn't taken the time to change the false thread title.

I'd like to see him suspended two games. Probably isn't going to happen, but that is what I think is an appropriate punishment.

Michigan can solve their off-season disciplinary problems in the future by going back to scheduling cupcakes like Notre Dame for the first two games of the season.

Except in the case of the 5 guys at Ohio St, where is was play in the Sugar Bowl, then sit out the next five.....but go ahead and play in this one first.

Agreed. They should have all sat the Bowl game. Went against past cases. Tressel should have been suspended too. Apparently, we didn't have ALL the facts. Knowing them now, tOSU should have suspended themselves from participating in the Bowl all together. JMO.

Who cares about past cases. In the past most teams didn't play BS schedules to start the year. Is missing a game against an FCS team the same as missing a game against a top 10 team?

Not accurate. Go look at past years. Wikipedia Kickoff Classic. Maybe not the overwhelming norm, but high level OOC games to start the season have occurred plenty - past, present & wiill happen in the future.

And it is reasonable to look at past precedents when there is no written rule. This is the case in life & in college football.

  • Don't forget this is Fitz' second strike - not his first. Had a driving on a suspended license misdemeanor a couple years ago.

Absolutely accurate. I did not say there were none, but there are far less than their used to be. If you do not believe me, google anything related to the rise in FBS schools playing FCS schools.

You did say past, which is the opposite of absolutely accurate. Go ahead & change what you meant to say. Makes no difference.

It is not reasonable to pick & choose what games are acceptable for suspension. Unless, you want to revise your main point as well.

I didn't change anything. More and more teams are scheduling crap Non conference opponents. It is a fact. In 2006 there were on average 54 games against "FCS schools", now there are approx 72. In the 1990's there were even less and that is only counting FCS or 1AA schools. There are plenty of crap schools in the FBS. The more crap games mean less meaningful games.

Is a one game suspension against an FCS opponent the same punishment as a 1 game suspension against a top 10 team?

The team reaction will be greatly different if he is suspended for a game they need him vs. one where they don't. Not really sure how you failed to understand this post and how it differs from your line of thinking.

Because um fans seemed to care an awful lot about MSU players previously, it's interesting to see how views change when it's their player in trouble now. Hilarious, actually

we're all guilty of accusing opponents of not doing enough punishment, but when the same thing happens to our team its too much. its part of being a fan lol

Perhaps. It's the Walverines that made a big deal out of Rucker being a second incident. Yet, without fail, your tune changes when it's one of your players.

No one really cares what Hokie Pokie does - but the hypocrisy of your lot is off the charts.

So then you think a player that gets into trouble in the offseason and his team play a scrub in their first game, then that player should have to wait until a significant game in order to have proper "team reaction"?

Not what I said at all. I believe that whatever penalty should be served immediately after the incident. If it affects the entire team then so be it, that is part of being a team. You live together you die together. That is how you establish a culture of holding one another accountable. When what your buddy is doing in his off time can damage your NC chances then you will call him out and do everything in your power to straighten him up if he is getting into trouble.

I don't know anything about Rucker. To be honest, the only issue I ever took with Dantonio was his handling of the Winston (I believe?) situation. That came back to bite him in the ass, so he probably learned from it.

I know there is a lot of talk here about how the Michigan fan base behaves, but I haven't really noticed it from the regular posters here. (full disclosure I am not keeping too close of eye on it).

Because Sparty is deathly afraid we are going to play Alabama toe-to-toe and further expose what a joke their "B10 tri-champ" 2010 team was. You know, the #7 ranked Sparty poser team that was jailsexed by Bama 49-7 in the Capital One Bowl.
