Tuerk commits to USC

Max Tuerk talks about his decision to commit to the USC Trojans moments ago.

  • Wow. SC is getting commits from kids like they don't have any sanctions. That makes 8 so far this year. I wonder if they know something about the sanctions being reduced???

  • Any idea on how many OL USC take ?

Kinda hoping this closes the door slightly on Peat

Feel like Nebraska and USC are FSU's main competition

  • Another top West Coast OL off the board. Should be interesting to see where all these good OL fall and how one domino affects the next.

  • Yeah, the domino scenario may prove interesting!

Has ZERO bearing. Peat is a top five, top ten player, you make room for him. We need at least 4 Ol's in this class (even with sanctions) so were are not close to being full. Also, I believe that we are looking at Turek as interior OL.

Not saying we are in the lead for Peat but I do not think Turek has any bearing on where we stand with him or where Peat ends up.

  • headslap well that sucks, thanks for the response though

Figured Turek was a inside guy

You guys are taking 5 OL with only 15 scholarships?? How does your class break down by with the committed players you have at this time?

  • With the appeal denied, their recruiting strategy will change since they currently have 83 schollies with now a 75 schollie limit.

What doesn't start until 2012 the 75 limit or the 15 scholarships a year for 3 years?

  • If I'm not mistaken, the 15 scholarships per year runs for the 2012, '13, and '14 season. The 75 limit goes into effect then, as well.
2010 - 17 scholarship players of which 6 have used 1 year of eligibility by lettering their freshman year. Barring a redshirt, these 6 willnot have a 5th year available in 2014.
2011 - 30 ( ! ) signed LOI with all indications that all 30 will arrive on campus this fall
    2012 - 15
    2013 - 15
    2014 - 15
That doesn't account for the sophomores and juniors currently on scholarship.

Getting back to the commit of Tuerk....if I'm a parent of a blue chip recruit, I'm wondering if I let my son sign with the Trojans knowing that A) they're severely handcuffed regarding recruiting which'll make it difficult to compete, B) they're on probation, and C) will be in the unenviable position of having to "cut" some guys to get under the 75 limit.

Maybe my math is wrong or my understanding of the situation isn't accurate, I don't know. I'm sure someone can help me and others better understand.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

  • The 75 max also applies, right now USC has approx 82 athletes on scholarship (including all that need to report in the fall). They have 13 seniors falling of the books next year which reduces the # to 69. With a cap at 75, they have room for 6 commitments and currently have 8. To reach the 10-12 that I previously estimated they will need guys moving to the NFL (early) or transferring etc..

  • No it doesn't. It applies to the 2012 season and class. SC will actually take 2 more EE toward the 2011 class.

They also have 10 4th year Junior's on the team.....So expect them to free some room up that way

    Those 10 are

    Curtis McNeal RB
    Brice Butler WR
    Matt Kalil OL
    Khaled Holmes OL
    Abe Markowitz OL
    Nick Perry DE
    Wes Horton DE
    Brian Baucham CB

Smoke some more of that sh_t! What the frakk class do you think we are talking about? The PSAs that are currently being courted are for the 2012 season.

Hence the estimate above the 6 spots clearly available. Yes it could be more, but, that is not a certainty!
