UGA fans response to UGA player (LONG)

  • SmithDawg48 said...

There is a lot of fans that also support CMR. We all like to jump on our rival team when they are down, we all do it. But IMO hold people accountable for there own actions. If a man is lazy and does not want to work why is it my responsibility to feed him. If a kid is dumb enough to ride around in a car with an unmarked gun he get what comes to him. If kids smoke pot knowing that there are random drug test then and they fail it, then it's there mistake. They know the drug policies at UGA they know a first time failed drug test is a suspension if they want to smoke pot go to a school with less strict policies. Stop putting the blam on coaches not just UGA coaches but all coaches they did not raise these kids they did not bottle feed them or change there diapers why should they now. Yes they can be positive influences in there lives but it does not take a community to raise a child it should be done in there homes.

thats the problem today, no one holds themselves accountable for their actions. its always someone or something elses fault..i was raised in a hood..boo freaking hoooo

I understand what you are saying. I am not jumping on a rival team (although I do wish UGA would play FSU). I want UGA to be a great team and consistently beat UF. I just know that there seems to be a large number of UGA fans who are starting to place the blame on Richt because he (and his staff) recruits these players. Where can you actually draw the line (IF there is one to be drawn) from the coaches not recruiting character guys and the players just getting in trouble?

At this day in age, most CFB fans and programs have the expectation of the HEAD COACH carries the onus for the program. If the program wins with character guys, then the coach is the greatest. If the coach starts losing with character guys, then he is not recruiting well and must improve immediately. If the coach wins with trouble guys, then he's a winner. If he loses with trouble guys, he's unemployed. From a coach's perspective, it's a two-edged sword. Players are somehow seen as pawns in this game of CFB. I agree that the players are responsible for their actions, but the coaches/advisors/etc have some liability here as well. If their methods for punishing this behavior is not working off-the-field, then it will certainly carry over to the field and be a cancer to the team. During the SECCG, many, many UGA fans were pissed that Crowell would take himself out of a game, with little or no injury. (IF he wasn't injured) I can see a coorelation in Crowell's lack of discipline/character and his ability to give up on his team during a game. This is just one instance, but you can see the issue here.

Plenty of teams face this. It seems like apathy is very common these days and kids just seem to want to blame everyone else for their failures. It is a different generation, no doubt. When I played football, coaches yelled, screamed and demanded our best. If we lost, the next week of practice was hell. Nowadays, such coaches are old school and need to be ran out of town. Hard practices cause your best players to leave/quit. It's a growing epidemic in CFB too.

Not give him the keys to the castle and let it be known that he was bigger than the team.

Support system. Accountability. Leadership. None of which CMR seems to use.

That isn't close to what happened, and Crowell didn't get the gun from Richt. It isn't CMR's fault, the kid was a thug and had every opportunity to straighten out and didn't. He had a support system, he had other "high character" players around to mentor him. He did this to himself, CMR and UGA didn't.

He would have been riding around Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Columbia, etc with the same gun in his car. The only difference is that those schools/coaches would have swept it under the rug instead of making the kid face the music.

  • confusedI run into these guys all the time on the internet. Check out the AJC (though progress is being made here) and the leatherhelmet blog (Super homers, they ban you if you are critical of UGA). My UGA friends in real life are not even close to this delusional. I expect some homerism but too much just makes the rest of the fanbase look bad. Why just the other day Nicolae said Oregon backed out of the UGA game to play a cupcake like LSU instead.

  • Man.. I just read that response. Agree 100%

I don't care what "hood" he grew up in, he was getting a chance that many young men around the country only dream about. He blew it, and it's nobody's fault but his own. It's not like he got caught drinking at a college party... he had a gun with the damn serial number filed off, like he was going to go take someone out. STUPID.

I said nothing about LSU you retarded inbred poser. They didn't back out of playing us to play LSU, the game between UGA and UO was cancelled due to UO's scheduling concerns. It was a mutual cancellation.

Amazing how you idiots cannot comprehend a simple thing like "if we had backed out, there would have been a buyout". Get back in the cabin and STFU, Early Cuyler.

  • Stop drinking the kool-aid is all I ask. If you truly believe any of that stuff you are posting on here then you need help like your buddy #SoCrow. Even if you can justify the comments you made about Oregon, there is no way you can defend UGA having a better backfield than Alabama or UGA being the only SEC program that is clean. I'm trying to help you man don't get mad at me.

Wow, I said our depth was comparable and that I would take ours over theirs because, IMO, Lacy is not very good and, other than Yeldon, our bigtime talent was younger and had sustained fewer injuries. Without Crowell, they pretty clearly have the better depth.

Also, I never said we don't "cheat". Every team cheats and you're a fool if you think otherwise. I said Tuscaloosa police would have never searched an Alabama football player's car at a roadblock on campus. If he were smoking or DUI, it would have been swept under the rug.

What else can you make up?

It wasn't his dog. It belongs to Mike "Big Dawg" Woods and he just let him use it for the announcement.

  • I'd take every back on Alabama's roster over any of our running back and that is all I have to say about that. You can argue that Vandy had a better backfield than UGA last year with Zach Stacy. Come on... we had a walk on get meaningful snaps at the end of the season you can't be serious. Crowell had even more potential than Caleb King and Washaun Ealy but ended his career with less or equal production. I do like Ken Malcome, Toddy Gurley, and Keith Marshall though but they are unproven as well as the offensive line. Do you have any proof that Alabama police are more lenient than UGA campus police? Crowell should not have even been in that situation. Its his fault not the polices.

Crowell was the most talented back we've had since at least Edwards, probably Hearst. I feel confident saying he would have ended up better than the two you mentioned. Too bad he won't get prove it.

Completely agree though that he put himself in this position by having the gun in the car at all. That was stupid and it is his fault. Wasn't meaning to imply otherwise on that count. The search is the only thing about the stop that actually bothered me. IMO the cop saw 5 black kids in a car at 3 in the morning and thought "easy mark", I don't think they ever actually smelled pot at all. Once that throwaway gun was found though, it was over for IC.

  • Good point. Like I told the old man I'm not here to argue with you guys I simply want better for UGA. I am a UGA fan by the way but I just happen to troll our fanbase because alot of the guys I met on the AJC and leatherhelmet blog were terrible IMO. I'll try not to give you such a hard time. You seem like a pretty good guy. Just a tad too homer for me.

  • Some well thought out responses to this situation from a couple players today.

    Garrison Smith:

"I must agree with the fan Bobby because I was raised that a boy makes excuses but a man owns up to when he was wrong and we as student athletes must make better decisions and be more cautious. We will never be perfect and mistakes will be made but when that happens there will always be consequences so therefore we have to be MEN and deal with them. -Garrison Smith

The player that started it all, Cornelius Washington:

I have gotten word that my post on Facebook has gotten a lot of buzz over the past week or so and there are a few things that I would like to say: Although everyone is entitled to their own opinions (even all the people who had negative things to say), I am at fault because no matter how I felt I should never have let those feeling get control of my better judgment. I should have kept it to myself and let the entire situation die down. My biggest regret about the whole thing is that it has cause so much disruption amongst the team. I forgot for a minute that I am here to get an education and play football and that pretty much is the extent of my responsibilities. I am not here to complain about the fanatics and for that I do apologize. I am a leader and I care about the guys that I lead. Believe me, I do know and understand that my teammate made a very bad decision and had to face the consequences, but I rather support him than be negative toward him. I rather help him succeed because I saw all the work that he had put in since spring and I was looking forward to seeing him play! The bottom line is that he has moved on and I'm happy he has found a place to continue his career, but the best thing for UGA football is to let this go and move forward positively. I would like to ask all the fans and supporters out there to help us with this by letting it go also. We have to continue to work hard and do our very best to get to Miami like we planned and I want all of you along for the ride.
