I agree. I don't like taking pleasure in kids doing stupid stuff like this, but if that statement is true, it is a perfect example of why UGA has had some of these issues over the years. He suspends him for game 1 and 3 against nobdies, but is letting him play in the Mizzou game.

To a kid that obviously has a troubled past, this is telling him that the coach does not run this program, the players do.

Having said that, I am not sure if that was an accurate quote that WRobbins posted and the justice system may dictate a slightly stiffer penalty as well.

I don't think they have a choice...they have to kick him off. If not then they will be dealing with this with him the entire time he is in Athens.

  • What's crazy is Tennessee signed the one Carver kid who actually got in trouble while in high school. He must be a sociopath murderer.

I don't think he's playing football in Athens anymore if he really had a concealed weapon in a school zone with altered serial #.

    lol

Bonner is a ok kid. My uncle worked with a bunch of the Carver,PC and Shaw kids at camps over the years. Now, IC on the other had is another story. My uncle said he wouldn't last a year at UGA if he made it to campus.

I'm sure Terry would have taken him at UNA. He better transfer to GSU before the move to FBS or he's heading to GaSouthern(we need him)/Ft.Valley because I don't think any Judge is going to grant a request to leave Ga to head to Miss or Kansas to play Juco while on probation or pending trail. The kid really censored himself.

It's all relative to where they came from.

Why do people in Alabama think of Columbus as a small town? Columbus is bigger than every city/town/commune in Alabama except Birmingham & Montgomery.

I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida so I'm not really from Alabama. I did attend Bama and graduated in 1999. Tuscaloosa is 100k+ but it is a small college town. My parents relocated there a few years back as my Father is originally from the Birmingham area. They enjoy the small town feel. Birmingham is not very big either. Mobile and Montgomery are small towns. I'm not talking about the one traffic light type of small towns but rather these are places people usually just end up unexpectedly or are native to the area. I lived in Augusta because I was stationed there and most non-natives to Augusta are military or govt contractors.

i wouldnt put it past them. carver football and columbus high baseball rule the city. i mean, if you show any talent in baseball at a young age you're immediately fast-tracked to columbus high school, regardless of grades etc... the majority of the police are from the area and probably graduated from one of those schools...it's all messed up.

Of course anything is possible, but I consider your response a little naive. I lived in Columbus for 32 years, played BB at Columbus High School and was a Police Officer there for ten years and those statement are simply not accurate. CHS and Carver are both magnet schools so student can choose to go there. CHS has an outstanding BB coach and program so a student who plays BB and wants to go to the next level will go there. the CPD has right at 400 sworn officers. About half of them are former soldiers from all over the country. Granted "discretion" can be used and manipulated, but I have seen Chiefs of Police, Congressmen, Judges, high ranking Military Officials, college and professional athletes, and HS studs arrested. A lit biggrr fish than Crowell for sure. So I just find the scenario you present as a skewed paradigm. No offense, but I am talki g from personal experience and not supposition and speculation.

I agree with your statement. If any police officer cut him some slack, it wasn't because they were wanting to look the other way to begin with. The whole point of the justice system, is not only to punish, but also to rehab the idividual so that they are in a better place to be a contribution to society and not a drain.

In Crowell's case, the best thing for him, as long as his crime wasn't major (whatever he did) would be to allow him to go on and better himself with a football scholarship to a major University that could lead to the NFL or at least hopefully an education. Now, if there is repitition involved, then enough is enough, and that seems to be the case at the moment. I think all law enforcement need to weigh all the options when dealing with a youth. At that age, you still want to help the kid, not ruin his life, if you can help it.

Actually, it was sarcasm, and it is not a quote from Mark Richt. I am not a UGA guy. I have a couple of close friends who played under Richt, though, one that played under Donnan, and one that even played under Goff. All of them are dismayed at the number of incidents Richt has encountered and are pretty upset with all of these players continually getting in trouble. My "quote" was meant in jest to all of the UGA fans who continue to support Richt through all these incidents. Sooner or later, they will see the coorelation between not winning and recruiting guys who can't stay out of trouble.
