The difference between the Rainey threads and the original thread about the family being assaulted is that no one is attacking Rainey or florida in that thread. It is simply a thread looking for info to find out if the rumor they heard is true. Nobody is attacking Rainey in those threads. In the thread that got deleted, the story was being used to attack the entire WV fan base. That is not allowed on these boards.
Oh and by the way it seems as if your thread title is wrong in that the family even states that it wasn't WV fans who attacked the family but instead just some thugs.

This is why I carry a pistol everywhere I go. I dont plan on suffering through surgery and possible brain damage. I plan on shooting the first one that reaches in my car and the rest should take care of itself. Having a pregnant wife in the car while being attacked by a group of thugs.......i think he gets off for the shooting and the surviving thugs NEVER attack another person as long as they live.

First off, I do not have moderator duties and can not delete threads.
Second, there is no "court of law" for what happened Sunday. Whichever mod deleted the thread was presented with the following decision.
A) Leave up a post by someone who created an account for no other reason than to put up the story, that carried absolutely no evidence to back up the claim and was unabashedly inflammatory towards a certain fanbase. AKA, flaming (which is not prohibited per the Terms of Service).
OR
B) Believe the official statement from The Chief of Police with four decades on the force and take it down until more evidence comes to light
Anyone without a bias would choose option B.
The fact that said moderator is leaving this up here after it was shown to have some credibility, but still absent of the whole story, is a testament to his neutral stance on the matter.

Mgo, I was saying that this is not something to put on WVU fans. I have been on multiple LSU boards, and the common theme is how much they loved their trip to Morgantown. Taking a couple bad apples, which all fan bases have, and flaming an entire fanbase is uncalled for. I have explained this before, and I will one more time for your small brain.
The reason that first thread was deleted was because it painted an entire fanbase in a bad light because of a thread on tigerdroppings.com. It had no facts, no evidence, and was just slanderous. As you can see this thread is still here. I would have done the same for any other fanbase.
So please, keep whining and crying around about a thread being deleted. I'm done talking about it.

It's nothing personal against you, that particular moderator, or any other poster here. We've just all come to take things with a grain of salt, particularly with a story like this. Frankly, any one person can weave a decent enough story to get attention online. And in a time where reporters are willing to cite random people online, it takes a lot more than a small news report to get people to believe.
Another factor in my leaning away from believing is the lack of attention. Whether or not the victims want it, they would not be able to stay away from media after something like this. Media eat these kinds of things up. And the lack of headlines, and verifiable sources, is what is leading to most of us doubting it.
Should more come out, I will happily admit my mistake. If this whole story is true, I have nothing but sincere thoughts for those harmed and nothing but anger for the bastards that did it. But until then? I'll hold off.

Is that supposed to make people feel better about visiting Morgantown or the fact there are ruffians running about unchecked violently assaulting ordinary citizens?

According to FBI Crime reports there are almost twice as many aggravated assaults in Dallas than the national average.
I am now fully prepared to hold it against all Cowboys and Mavericks fans, as well as Longhorns, Aggies, Red Raiders, Mustangs, .......
It's fun to paint people with a broad brush, isn't it?
