  • Hoping that UA can get Grant Hill. Would be a mauler at guard.

Lebron James will never be as good as Michael Jordan, thus we should get rid of his nickname, "The King".

I saw Grant in person this fall. He is absolutely massive but not a lot of bad weight. He really impressed us when we finally saw his film.

  • Good move with Mackensie Alexander. Looking forward to the Noles giving Tenn hell for him.

Still a ton of questions around Henry as a RB so giving him a fifth star over Bigelow is a move I'd first guess just as a follower of things

Henry is ranked as an athlete and he's had his fifth star since the initial release. I agree that he's not a homerun 5-star guy because of position questions. I would disagree that Bigelow should be above him though. I'm not as big on Bigelow as some others.

    Thanks.

Good to see Golson move up to 88. I really do feel like he's on a guy like Theus' level. Splitting hairs once guys get so highly ranked.

  • Thanks for the updates. Hackenberg certainly is flying up the rankings. I'll be interested to see how many QB's have 5 stars by the final 2013 ranking.

So on a semi-related question - are we ever going to see in-depth analysis on a player's profile? Maybe also include if a staff member has seen them in person or not? There are some guys that I see on tape and wonder why on earth they're ranked so low or ranked so high, would like to see some explanations without having to ask each time.

  • I read a ESPN guy tweet that Punahou coaches think the LB Isaac Savaiinaea will end up being better than Te'o. Again coaches opinion.

Also good to see RB Kyle Hicks get a nice jump, I imagine with the Amoakos being teammates and Oregon coaches already showing interest he will be someone for Oregon fans to keep an eye on.

What do you think he needs to work on? Just from his height and weight i would imagine a little footwork and maybe get in a little better shape.

He's actually not in bad shape at all. He's the type of kid that is just big all around. Not fat. Big and country strong.

I think just technique and pass pro are the most important things for him. For being as big as he is, he plays with pretty good leverage and has good knee bend.

Except there's a high probability of Hicks committing to Texas this weekend

I see. Already expressed a lot of interest in Texas?

What's LH fans take on Dontre Wilson? With Tyner committed I can pretty much guarantee he (Wilson) is number one on Oregon's list. I don't see Wilson making the jump this early (assuming there is mutual interest) considering he scheduled for an UOV to Oregon a month from now.

Wilson seems to be an uphill battle at this point. He appears to be an Oregon lean at this point, but Gerry said in one of his articles today that he thinks Wilson stays closer to home in the end. We'll see though, because I remember him actively recruiting Thomas Johnson to Oregon on Twitter a couple months ago when he was committed to us

I'm still waiting for Steve Elmer to get his 5* instead he continues to get passed over.

Interesting. His junior film is impressive, he's got good hands out of the backfield to be a receiving threat as well. The UOV should give a good gauge of exactly where we are with him.

That's going to happen with us doing rankings earlier. You can expect broader moves in terms of spots. Here are a couple of graphs on it.

Our philosophy, to account for the accelerated recruiting process, is to rank prospects earlier in their high school careers than what has been previously done in this business. Because a player can develop dramatically or not in a 2-3 year period in the sport of football, that’s going to make for greater movement in the rankings.

So it’s not out of the question that a player is No. 8 to begin with and finishes at No. 90 or he’s No. 187 and finishes No. 12. The delta for the player’s final ranking (which is what matters and what we should be judged on in that regard) is much wider during a 24-36 month period than an 8-12 month period.

Think of it (and I use this comparison often) as an NFL Draft “big board”. Two years out, a player may be projected as a top five pick, but when all is said and done, after seasons on the field, combines and pro days, other types of evaluations, etc., he may slip to the third round or so.

I certainly am not saying that we are justified if we have a kid start out as a five star with a rating of 102 and end up as a two star with a rating of 75. That’s drastic and inconsistent. But we’ve found that it’s human nature for fans to look at a 30-40 spot drop in rankings and wonder what their favorite prospect going to their school “did wrong” or why we “don’t think he’s good”. Well, the drop doesn’t mean either, it just means when we re-adjusted everything, including the rankings of other prospects, said prospect fell to that particular point in the rankings.

Rankings are fun for you guys to debate, celebrate, complain about, etc., and they are fun for us to put together. That’s why we are going to push the envelope and get rankings out earlier- so you guys can enjoy them and learn about the prospects at an earlier date- so on a day like today- a junior day- you can really dig in and get a true sense of what is going on inside your favorite football program

Yes. Scouting reports are coming, attributes are coming and those will include in-person evals that will also include a timeline entry.
