USC fans, embarrassing question....

  • I've never figured out what your actual situation is going forward. Can one of you give me a simple break down? Thanks

You can play in the PAC12CG and Bowls this year and beyond right?

You have ___ scholarships reduced until when?

    Thanks

    fsufsu

  • We're eligible for bowls this year.

We have a limit of 15 new scholarships/year and 75 total scholarships for the next 3 years. We can still use EEs this year to enroll up to 19 I think.

The early enrollee number is 18 but yes, AbsenteeTrojan got everything else right.

  • Thanks, so 2013, 2014, and 2015 have to be 15 man classes? With some small wiggle room?

Man, you guys are going to sign like 35 guys and it be the best class ever imagined in 2016

No, 2014 is the last year. 2012 was the first year of scholarship reductions. We can start taking full classes in 2015

Is that the year with Sills already committed?

Yes, Sills is the class of 2015

    GreeneTrojan

  • Got your headliner right there then. He'll be top 75 at worst and that would be a good enough bell cow.

    Yeah it is.

The thing isn't the reductions anymore since Lane front-loaded by signing a huge 2011 class, and redshirted a million guys. The only issue is staying at the 75 scholarship cap we have. In 2010 and 2011 Lane basically played with a NFL sized roster because every young kid was redshirting, and he hardly rotated at all. I think he played 43 scholarship guys at Oregon last year, and plans on rotating and playing a lot more guys this year.

Many people think that the scholarship reductions haven't been felt yet, but Lane took them head on the first two seasons by redshirting almost all of his recruits. Does 75 guys create depth problems? Yes and no, depending on in-season attrition and avoiding a plague of injuries. I think he recruited well enough and planned well enough to get out of it unscathed. During the Carroll era USC rarely played with a full 85, and Pete's classes averaged around 19 IIRC.

We can end this thread now
Alonzo broke it down as well as anyone could have
    Well done
Main thing is that we will never be as thin as we were last year

  • Why did Pete average 19? Could he not afford 25??

Our 19 are better than your 25, that's why.

No we didn't. 12 out of 15 counted toward the 2012 class leaving us with 3 EE's available.
