USC football manager fired for illegal game ball deflation

  • "A USC football student manager has been relieved of all duties with the Trojan football team for intentionally deflating, below NCAA-regulated levels, some game footballs used by USC's team during the first half in last Saturday's game against Oregon.

Game officials discovered and re-inflated three of the balls before the game and two others at halftime. All balls were regulation in the second half.

When informed of this allegation by the Pac-12, USC investigated it immediately. The student manager confirmed that he had, without the knowledge of, or instruction from, any USC student-athlete, coach, staff member or administrator, deflated those game balls after they had been tested and approved by officials prior to the game.

As a result, the Pac-12 reprimanded USC and imposed a fine."

Is Lane even in charge of his program?

I bet the manager received a nice severance package.

The best part is the official statement put out by the school declaring that the student manager did it all on his own. It was just a wacky practical joke I guess.

  • A friend of mine was a USC student manager from 2001 to 2005. They used differently inflated balls for kick-offs and punts but they had to be rotated in by the ball boys and some times they couldn't get them in. That was when you saw a guy who kicked off into the end zone every kick kick one to the two. This is a common practice and has been for years by many teams.

Why would an under inflated ball help USC over Oregon? USC was the passing team and an under inflated ball is different to throw. It was a stupid thing to do and I see no competitive advantage.

Did you read the official statement put out by USC? This is not some honest mistake by a ball boy. It was intentional. But they are claiming it was done by a rogue student manager without anyone else's knowledge. Yeah, sure. That's believable. blank

  • There's no chance in hell that the kid willingly did this by himself without any outside force. No way Jose.

Yep, I would say Lane Kiffin is responsible for taking the air out of a few footballs,
the same way Brian Kelly is responsible for killing his practice videographer.

What you do not know is Kelly worshipped the god of wind and then crawled up the scissor jack and threw that poor kid off the top - then he had the football team push the scissor jack over - then lay the body beside the jack so it looked like an accident.....

You are a moron and condone Lane cheating - your Kelly comment would be the same as accusing President Obama as a murderer for every death Military or National Disaster because he is in charge.

You're an embarrassment to your parents

  • Finally some kind of dust up. This board sees so little SC v ND hate crime. Too much mutual fluffery as of late.

  • Student manager should go to prison for at least 29 years for his crime against humanity.

  • From my expierience with blow-up dolls I know if you deflate them some it makes them softer and easier to handle, also makes them a little more flexible.

  • Rogue student manager? Sure. Gets a nice lump sum for "confirming" he was alone. I love the use of that word "confirm." Almost as if the question was leading towards that conclusion to begin with. "Can you confirm that nobody else knew about this?"

Waiting for usctrojan1 to come in here speaking about Trojan glory and how Lane has really cleaned up his act since arriving at Holy SC because SC wouldn't allow otherwise.

What a chode Kiffin is though seriously.

For the record, your 75 are not better than many teams 85. Time to change the sig bud, SC has been getting "pwnd" by average teams and just got 62 hung on them at home. Lulz

Kiffin is a great Coach, and even better person.
