You could give UT Aaron Rodgers, MegaTron, Larry Fitzgerald, and Julio in the slot with Gronk as a TE and Jimmy Graham as an HB. They still don't have a running game, they still can't protect the skill guys with the offensive line. Don't become in awww of numbers and individuals. This isn't basketball and nobody has Cam Newton or Tim Tebow type skill or resolve to win a game alone.

Personally I think you would score 70+ plus every game easily and have NCAA football stats on JV. Only ceiling to what you could would be on Dooley not on opposing defenses. Does anyone think Tennessee would come close to losing a game with this offensive firepower? And if your that desperate for a running game UT could always put Julio at HB and he'd make a pretty good blocking back for Rodgers.

How is hunter looking this year? Is he at 100%? I was watching some of the game he played in last year before he was hurt and he looked very good.

he played alot more than anyone thought this Spring but they held him out of most of the final scrimmages ; DB's said he looked as good as new when he was out there though and he is a huge leader for this team

  • I think the Vols will be alot like Arkansas has been the last few years. We can win any game with offense but defense and kicking could lose us any game at the same time. But I think we will be alot better than we have been.9-3 at least.

True but with bray coming into his own and if hunter and rogers remains at 100% the vols very well could be 11-1 with the only loss to Alabama

They are going to be very dangerous in the passing game but they probably still won't have a running game.

I think teams that can create pressure can really give them some trouble too.

I really don't see them getting anywhere near being 11-1.

  • I see a strong 8-4/9-3 season for the Vols

08/31/12 vs. North Carolina State TV Georgia Dome (Atlanta, Ga.) W
09/08/12 vs. Georgia State Knoxville, Tenn. W
    09/15/12 vs. Florida * Knoxville, Tenn. W
09/22/12 vs. Akron Knoxville, Tenn. W
    09/29/12 at Georgia * Athens, Ga. L
10/13/12 at Mississippi State * Starkville, Miss. W
    10/20/12 vs. Alabama * Knoxville, Tenn. L
    10/27/12 at South Carolina * Columbia, S.C. L
11/03/12 vs. Troy Knoxville, Tenn. W
    11/10/12 vs. Missouri * Knoxville, Tenn. W
    11/17/12 at Vanderbilt * Nashville, Tenn. W
    11/24/12 vs. Kentucky * Knoxville, Tenn. W
    Next Event

I predict a 9-3 season, though USCe or Florida could easily flip. Probably have the second best offense in the SEC behind UGA.

  • Nobody really knows how Hunter is going to turn out. He looks good, but has admitted he doesn't feel the same. C. Patterson could be better than Hunter or DaRick; he hasn't played against SEC competition, but some coaches who have witnessed say he is lights out.

The trump in this deck will be Bray. He will have open receivers; will he be able to take what the d offers and move the chains? Raijon Neal will also be explosive target out of the backfield. The O line should be mature enough to handle the pressure. Plenty of potential there barring ANY injuries...still no depth in roster.

Looking for J. Smith to have breakout year on defense under Sal's watch.

It's my island. I OWN IT.

i totally agree with you although i really think that 8 wins would be great in my mind ; Def will be young again and will be the liability of the team this year although they werent horrible last year - only lose one player from the def starters

i agree with you but do think the depth will be better this coming year esp on the OL as we have :

Marcus Jackson ( Soph ) 6-3/328 who started a couple of games as a tr fr last year
James Stone ( JR ) 6-3 / 315 started every game for the last two yrs
Alan Posey ( RS/ FR ) 6-6/ 337 red shirt freshman who is pushing for playing time
Marquis Pair ( RS/Soph) 6-5/312 red shirt soph who was projected to start until he got hurt Fr year
Mack Crowder ( RS/ FR) 6-3/ 285 red shirt Fr who is pushing for starting time at C

After seeing the schedule anything less than a 7 win season would be a severe disappointment. The schedule is solid but not unreasonable missing out on LSU and Arkansas. The NCST game should be 80% orange, just looks to be set up for a solid year for the Vols. Unless, UT gets hit by the NFL draft next year should be a top team.

  • i dont think they will have run game and bray will get sacked ALOT most likely miss some games too

    TravisFLAx8

  • possibly but everyone is back from last year on a OL that gave up the fewest sacks i believe in the SEC last year ; the question is whether they will be able to run the ball which i think they will to some degree b/c def wont be able to stack the box againest the run shrug
**** UT did finally add a RB coach this year in Jay Graham fr South Carolina which should help the running game some *****

  • Our passing game should be as good as its being billed. Thing about our O-Line is for the most part (save when Matt Simms played) they were excellent in pass pro last year. Everyone says we had a horrible line last year, but they were just inconsistent. Excellent in pass pro and not very good against the run. The running game is the question. Marlin Lane cannot fly as has been said ITT, and we still don't know who our #1 is going to be. I think the line will be better run blocking, but we are still waiting for a RB to emerge, and that will really determine whether we can be like Arky last year (I think our D will be about that good), or more middle of the road.

fair enough but the addition of Jay Graham as a full time RB coach as well as the addition of Neal ( who can fly ) back to RB will help the running game ; agree that we dont have anything close to a Lattimore type player back there but do think we have serviceable RB's who can carry the ball enough to be useful . Add Watson , Howard and D Young back there and you have some interesting dynamics

Agree that there are some interesting parts. We just need one guy to emerge, and after that, the other parts will be fine. I like Jay a lot. No excuse for Dooley not to have him on the staff 2 years ago, but I am happy he is here now. He will definitely be help, and If i had to guess, I think we will be fine.
