  • I keep seeing UVA come up more and more as the next team to enter the B1G. How would you guys feel about the move? If you don't like it at all, would you feel better about it if another team was garaunteed to come?

    Thanks for any response

  • Of course they would. A mega rich conference and other than Ohio State is a beatable conference. They could win 8 to 10 games a year on the regular.

You do realize that the ACC has only about two great cities (Miami and Boston), Shitty weather (BC, Pitt, Syracuse, VT, even North Carolina gets cold) and a many private schools with a smaller student body and less girls.

So basically youre trying to rationalize the B1Gs suckiness

  • From what I gather, no fans of any team outside of maybe FSU and Clemson want to leave the ACC. We're poised to become a basketball powerhouse and the ties between many of these schools have been there for over a century in some cases.

At the same time, no one wants to be left in a collapsing conference should any of the others decide to leave. Unfortunately, I think this sort of situation will eventually lead to the crumbling of the ACC. I would say my preferences are as follows:

    1. Stay in the ACC with all the current members (plus Syracuse, Pitt, ND obviously)
    2. Leave for the SEC (very unlikely)
    3. Leave for the B1G
    4. Disband the entire athletics program.

"Cities" was probably the wrong word to use, but I would spend a weekend in Chapel Hill or Charlottesville before I spent one in Miami or Boston. Just my two cents, everyone has different preferences.

If I'm going to see a college sports team I'd much rather watch it in a college town, for me big cities aren't for sports. I've had a sibling attend unc undergrand and another uva law so I got to be quite familiar with both chapel hill and charlottesville. If I'm going to Miami, sports/college is a lower priority.

Established Programs Over the Past 10 Years:
UNC, Duke, Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Louisville.
    Programs on the Rise:
NC State, FSU, Miami, Virginia (I'll admit to being a homer here)
Declining/Dormant Programs: (Note that all of these teams have at one time been decent or at least good enough to field a tourney team)
Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Boston College, GA Tech.

I'd say we field 9-10 teams that have a shot at the tourney each year. Not bad.

  • I think he was laughing because you said basketball powerhouse. I'm not sure there's anything significant about that.

  • I suppose you're right about that since all the realignment is money driven and thus football driven. Still seems like a shame to break it up

  • Rather keep the ACC together, but since that will be challenging I would rather jump first before slots are taken. Big Ten is more logical (not logical, just more logical)
SEC is not a great fit and Big 12 is even worse
