Also, does anyone else find it strange that if you are on welfare that you are not considered unemployed? Yet if you work 2 hour a week that you count as being employed. Basically, if a company has 400 hours of work to do each week, instead of having 10 full time employees they can avoid paying the full time benefits by employing 20 people to work 20 hours a week. That also doubles their employment #'s. Plus, with the holidays coming up, most "new" jobs will be part time seasonal labor that will be laid off after Christmas. Great times indeed.

No point when you collect a welfare check every month without doing anything. Lucky for us those peoples votes count the same as mine. :/

Surely you are smart enough to realize that the "new hiring" is mostly part time work for the holidays.

I think the only thing that might help the numbers or give a false perception is that companies are making holiday hires that will not last long term

The unemployment rate and the jobs number are seperate statistics. U-3 doesn't include temps.

Those numbers aren't all just people who have "given up". They include people who don't work like stay at home moms and people have retired. It's chosen for a reason because they aren't seeking employment, so its slightly confusing, but there are other measurements to counter that the BLS uses to get a clearer picture.
