    I'm 35. I have a 12 and an 8 year old daughter. That's all I care about.

For college graduates, I'd be willing to bet it's short-term. For youth in general, it could very well be long-term. It all depends on whether the baby boomers feel confident enough to retire. If they retire at the proper time, we won't be dealing with a lack of jobs, but a lack of people to fill them.

It will be short term for college grads based on what? Under what circumstances do you see "a lack of people to fill" jobs left by retirees? I'll hang up and listen.

    No. It isn't.

Any realistic look at the economy wouldn't be described as in the tank or in a recession or anything like that.

What we are facing and what Leppy should have mentioned is stagnant growth, a lost decade.

You wanna give someone blame for the moment? Blame congress who could be reaching a deal right now that would give businesses long-term confidence. No one wants to hire because of the fiscal cliff.

Even worse, if they don't reach a deal, we could see this entire last year's gains gone to shit because of it.

Obama said it himself - "Reduce the unemployment rate, stimulate the economy, reduce the deficit - or I should only be a 1 term President" - any man of his word would step down.

No one wants to hire because there is no cash. When there is no cash - there are no investments, but the Admin continues to borrow from China to help "restimulate" two previous failed stimulus packages.

Dude - It's not working and will not work. Housing and Urban Development cannot even keep up with all the requests for subsidized housing to prevent people from living on the street. Welfare and Foodstamp recipients are at an all time high, Medical Practices are taking payments in CASH from seniors who could not afford to pay $2400 a month for health coverage.

It is not working under Obama

Here - I will give you your forum - Please explain how Obama is going to get this country out of the economic situation we are in right now? What is he going to do different in the next 4 years that will change the "Stagnent Growth" you spun to not hold the Prez accountable for?

A recession freezes hiring, but colleges still graduate people.

On the last part, if we have more people retiring than we have to fill the positing, you have a lack of supply of net labor.

People are not hiring because they don't have cash. Businesses are sitting on trillions in cash reserves because of a lack of confidence in the long-term and no short-term demand. Those are all solved by a grand bargain.

The stimulus and the bailouts have run their course. We aren't spending those anymore. The deficit is where it is because of increases in spending and a lower than average revenue.

No shit, dude. I'm asking what could make you think that companies are all of a sudden going to start hiring (short term issue in your words) and what makes you think that retirees are going to leave a void in the labor supply, especially when you state yourself that colleges will continue to produce graduates looking for work.

If by "informed" you mean copying and pasting every liberal agenda and talking point he reads then I agree. If its by personal life experience, running a small business, paying taxes, being unemployed long term with a degree, and the general wear and tear on everyday life beating you down from everyday aspects of the real world then I don't agree. It's not a huge surprise that he's liberal. Tons of college students tend to start out that way.

Edit: of course I don't look down at his opinions. I enjoy reading them and hope once he's got some life experience that he'll see the errors in his youthful way of thinking.

So many guys on this board copy and paste neoconservative agenda, but at least his is more reasonable. I think it was last eek that people were saying that gas prices doubled under obama, thats nothing but a stupid talking point. People throw numbers around everywhere that simply aren't true or reasonable but it's ignored if it's based on neoconservatism.

Pending the fiscal cliff and some foreign catastrophe, the economy should grow at a rate to lower the unemployment rate substantially.

Now. There are a lot of things that could happen to affect the supply of labor.

A delay in unemployment applications has almost no correlation with the unemployment rate. It just got shifted to another week, but the polling down to estimate the unemployment rate still polls Californians.

By the way, it was just california.

Either way, that's a huge state to "leave out." I disagree that it doesn't matter, because it does. California has taken away the incentive for people to work by allowing them to collect unemployment for 99 weeks.

Philosophical differences aside, it is a better policy for short recessions. That's what happens when you underestimate stuff though.

Um no. There is nothing to give the impression to anyone who knows what they are talking about that the economy is growing enough to overtake population growth or get us back to where we were pre-recession. The "growth" report that was reported today as some sort of Obama victory isn't even half of what we need to get back to normal. But you know that. You just choose to ignore the real numbers.

The fact that you continue to spew left wing propaganda while claiming that you are not a democrat is laughable. Atleast be honest. You claim that you are a "political junkie" but you get your info from Democratic spin machines. You have no life lessons, nor do you have any sort of experience to know what is best or right for the country or even yourself. But it's cute that you think you know so much. I'm sure you are a hit on campus with others like yourself. What are you going to do for attention and to take up your time after the elections, though, when politics are not as important? I hope finding a good job is not on your to do list.
