Unions suck

  • Pretty sure foreign workers "willing" to work for $1 a day is why jobs are going overseas.

    shrug

FTR: Not a fan of unions.

Very true. And all these liberals that demand higher wages and medical care don't like it at all. Of course they'll post about it while they enjoy their PS3's, Samsung TV's and Bangladesh cotton shirts straight from the brow sweat of a 10 year old.

  • Conceptually and 50 years ago, unions were a good thing. Nowadays, just like with nearly everything else political that began with good intentions, it's become a corrupt, problematic strain on the country and its leaders generally make self-serving decisions rather than using common sense.

I'll always support a workers right to organize. My father was a teamster for 40 years. He gave the union more hell than the company he worked for but maintained he'd rather be unionized than not.

Take a look at the asburd increase of CEO pay over the past 30 years. Talk about corrupt and a problematic strain on our country. There it is.

Unions got too powerful (most general labor unions), they are past their prime IMO but still cause some unneeded issues. Ill only stick up for mine specifically as its not an easy trade and is extremely dangerous. I earn the good Cheddar and Benny's I get (overhead linemen).

  • While I'm not generally a fan of unions, it's hard to blame them for very much... private sector unions and their influence are rapidly vanishing. It's the public sector ones that are doubling down.

They're stupid and too extreme, forcing their bosses to close the company. This makes the head honchos move their companies overseas where people aren't little babies and whine about everything. There's a reason why the CEO is a CEO. There's a reason why you work in manual labor or on an assembly line. Respect them. Do your job. Shut up.

    (this isn't aimed at you)

I'd like to see a comparative percentage of salary increases between CEO's and employees with degrees over a 40 year period. I'd bet they're pretty close.

Because they make ridiculous demands to the point many businesses just say f*** it, and relocate their operations overseas.

There used to be an employee on an assembly line that got paid 30 bucks an hour to install lug nuts on tires. I think they finally sub-contracted that job out to monkeys now.

I would bet you are wrong.
Doesn't say who has degrees but if you aren't a CEO, then I would imagine it is not close.

Are you trying to say that the average American worker is no better than a trained monkey?
If so, you must be in favor of jobs going overseas.

I do agree with JC though especially with business nowadays.

    It's more complicated than this...

I will give you a real world example for a company I know.

Huffy Bicycles. Great American made company. Based in Ohio. manufacturing plants in Ohio, Missouri, Mississippi, California and Washington. Sub contracting plants all over. They also owned 5 other related companies.

Walmart was obviously their largest customer. Walmart would not pay Huffy a price that was realistic. If Huffy were to lower the price of a bicycle to the level that Walmart would pay they would have to cut salaries...across the board by 45%. The cost to manufacture (or sub) a bicycle from china, ship the unit, impot taxes was 10% the cost of making that same unit in The U.S.

So really we ALL are to blame.

Walmart for demanding cheap products that are not made in the states
The Union for demanding wages beyond what the market could hold
The company for allowing the union to take more than they should have
You, me, all of us for buying a bike from china because it was so much cheaper

Huffy really had an easy decision. Move manufacturing overseas and save some jobs and the brand. Close the company. Welcome to 2012.
