  • I had been wondering why Breneman was so low.

  • I never knew the rating scale exceeded 100. How does a recruit earn a 102 or 103, considering how difficult it is to be rated 100?

    Player Rankings Explanation

At 247Sports, each recruit that we evaluate will be assigned a numerical rating as well as a star rating. The rankings are determined by our recruiting analysts after countless hours of personal observations, film evaluation and input from our network of scouts.

Players are ranked by position, grouped qualitatively with a star ranking and given a numerical ranking based on their future potential. The explanation for the numerical rankings is below.

110 - 101 = A player ranked in this range is a "franchise player." He is one of the best to come along in years - if not decades (LeBron James, Adrian Peterson). Odds of having a player in this category every year is slim. This prospect has “can’t miss” talent.

100 - 98 = Five-star prospect. One of the top 25 or so prospects in the nation. Player has excellent pro potential, and should emerge as one of the best players in the country before his college career ends

97 - 90 = Four-star prospect. Prospect will be an impact-player for his college team. All-America candidate who displays pro potential. Typically one of the top 300 players in the nation.

89 - 80 = Three-star prospect. These are the players who will develop into reliable starters for the college teams. They are among the best players in their region of the country, and are generally among the top 750 players in the nation.

79 - below = Two-star prospect. These players make up the bulk of Division I rosters. They may have little pro potential, are likely to become role players for their respective schools or not enough is known about the prospect to rank them accurately.

Sorry for the rant, but this is another example of how we're trying to change the industry to benefit the user. Sitting around and releasing a five star a day, or waiting until after Signing Day to release your top kids for the next year is a thing of the past for us. We're going to rate more recruits, more often.

247+ already rated and ranked in 2013 is just the start.

I think it's pretty cool to see a shell of the Class of 2013 Team Rankings this early http://247sports.com/Team/Ranking/2013 . I also like having State and Position rankings updated whenever there's a change (not just at the beginning of the season, then at the end) and more than 40 WR prospects rated and ranked in the Class of 2013 http://247sports.com/Recruit/Position-Ranking/2013/Football/WR

There is obviously a lot of work still to do and many more ways to improve/expand our coverage, but this is one thing I think showcases our expertise and willingness to push the accepted industry standards. We were the trendsetters for this industry when many of us were at Rivals and we will be here. Even if you're not a 247Sports fan, you're going to benefit from us pushing the others to improve and grow along with us.

  • Great stuff guys. There is a reason you're kicking some serious ass in this industry. It's just an ass beating and that goes for a lot of the team sites too.

clap good stuff NOAH. I will say I was disappointed with the lack of coverage on the CALI All-Star game that took place last week. What happened, 247 had two people out there the first two days and nothing after that, did I miss something?

No, we were out there every day of practice and had articles and a thread on the board updated constantly through Thursday.

Jason Sapp is by far the best and most credible reporter in the Notre Dame market. I am glad you are enjoying BGI. I know a lot of folks have been of late looking at the growth.

  • I find it hard to believe that Mainland's Quentin Powell OLB is not in the top 247. All this kid does is dominate on one of the best defenses in the entire country. Hell he has out played Leonard Williams the past 2 seasons. I know these are early rankings but that's a big no show imo

Yeah he will be in the next update. That's my fault. He was on the watch list. More of an oversight than anything.

I've seen him and think he's a heck of a player.

One thing about 247, we will update constantly and not necessarily the entire country at once. It's going to be more of a fluid thing than the other rankings releases you may be used to. It will work sort of like a "big board" with constant change.

When are you guys going to bump the #10 player in the country to his much deserved 5* status?
