Updates on Debate?

He won't pull ahead, but the gap will definitely lessen. The key will be continuing this in the next two debates.

I think that the 8% that Romney is down in Ohio will go down to 3-4% and the other battleground states will all be within the margin of error. In other words Obama still has a slight lead, but not the big lead he had built up over the last two weeks.

Alot of the republican plan revolves around getting.the economy/jobs going which will increase revenue and therefore reduce.deficit . Romney has already talked about cchanges to Medicaid to reduce costs and.he is.careful.not to say cuts.

So the US economy produces about $14 trillion, and the deficit is $1 trillion. Let's presume a tax rate of 30% on all GDP (this is really high).

You need an extra $3.3 trillion immediately to reduce the deficit, which is about a 20% increase in GDP.

    Those numbers don't add up.

That's always been a question of mine: Why is it so hard to find a candidate that is both "GTFO government!" when it comes to economic AND social issues? I've seen a lot of candidates from the Republican side ('cause obviously most Democrats favor a more involved government) talk about how they want the feds out of as much of their businesses as possible (taxes, regulations, etc.) and then turn around and want things like making gay marriage illegal, outlawing Sunday alcohol sales (at the local level), etc. Is there not a small government party anymore?

    Completely agree.

I don't understand how Repubs say small.govt , but want to dictate social issues. It is all driven by religion and that is big part of the party .

I think Americans would get behind someone who likes small govt and says wgas about the social crap

That's my beef. Who wouldn't vote for a candidate who promises everything? Well, I won't because I want to work the math out before I submit my support.

    Wtf?

Did you not follow hope and change?

Biggest farce in history. Nothing Obama said he would do, he's done.

Sadly, knowing this country, it will be from education. I don't feel like Americans as a whole really value a good education.

Did you catch Obama stating 100,000 teacher layoffs the last few years but he wants to add more teachers?

    My thinking exactly.

Poltifact says he followed up on 45% of his promises.

Not like I'm voting for him. And I didn't vote for him in 2008 either, so stop simply labeling me as a liberal.

I caught that. Obvious teacher's union plug.

I was responding to your statement about Obama not delivering on promises (which I agree with) and was wondering how you felt McCain would have done as president had he been elected rather than Obama.

I'm voting for neither (vote Johnson!).

But to me, I summed this up as such. Romney wants to:

Not raise tax rates on anyone
    Not cut from education significantly
Not cut from military spending at all
Not cut from health care spending
Not cut from medicare (and add 716 billion)
    Balance the budget

That seems like horsecrap to me. If you want to balance the budget, you have to cut SOMETHING.

EDIT: Obama's plan is no better. So I'm not taking sides. I just wish someone would actually propose something instead of saying why the other 'solution' won't work.

He specifically said is this gov. Program so important that its worth borrowing $ from china to support. If it can't pass that test then he will cut it. He gave examples of obamacare & PBS as things he would cut.

I'm waiting for a list of actual programs. He hasn't produced anything close to that. He hasn't even produced a list of potential targets, the top of which would be medicare/medicaid, and lowering income taxes.

Anywho, China deflates based on the US currency, so it's not like that will keep jobs here anyway.

  • It also seems as if Obama is trying to distance himself, from himself. He's now gonna become Bill Clinton in his second term.

So with about 60,000 government programs to go through you want a list in a 2 minute segment. Lol

Every nation's economy is interconnected with every other nation's. We need to stop acting like we can operate in some sort of vacuum. We're closer to a true global society than people want to admit.

I'll settle for a website list or even a select group of top targets.
