I'm not 100% sure, but I think the pay as you go plans on most major companies only have a select few phones that you can purchase. I also dont think smartphones are an option. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm not liking this tier system.. although a buddy of mine that works at a Verizon store told me it will lower my monthly bill since I only use about 2-3 gigs of Data per month.

I was in a Verizon store this weekend and asked about their new plans coming up. The rep was not happy and said he was not looking forward to the new plans. The plans will be data centric, with all phones and devices on your account working off a pool of data. You buy the amount of data you use and it is tiered by price. A good thing is your phone can now function as a data hotspot for no charge. Upgrade by the 28th to lock into your current plan for two years or you will be forced to update your plan when you do. See your Verizon store for details. Don't want everyone to be surprised.

I have Sprint for my daughters and they both have Blackberry Curves. I just checke their current data usage and one used 1G of data, the other over 6. She uses the data for e-mail and web. The Blackberry doesnt have wifi so that would cut down on a lot of data when she is home.
The service is better than it used to be (coverage) and I like the plans.

I would like to see a comparison of data usage for various phones. IPhone, several top Androids, Blackberry etc. it should break down tasks performed on each. Do some phones uses more data for the same tasks? I heard 4g uses more than 3G. Is e-mail on a Blackberry more data intensive?

I have an upgrade availalbe on Verizon, going to use it before the 28th for sure. Both myself and my wife have 4g phones and these things eat up data. Mainly because it is so easy to stream netflix, youtube, etc.
we have a pretty good set up right now, basically paying $72 per phone for unlimited everything. tried telling my mother in law about this but I'm pretty sure it went over her head
