Awesome! I am starting to look around to get an idea of what I want to put in mine.

Can you post a list of what you put in yours?

    Case: NZXT Phantom Full Tower
    Motherboard: ASRock Extreme4 Gen3
    CPU: Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz
    CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9900MAX-B
    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600 2x4GB
GFX Card: EVITA GTX670 FTW Edition
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
PSU: OCZ ZT Series 750w Fully Modular
    DVD Drive: Lite-ON 24x Burner
Monitor: Samsung 27" Touch to Color 2ms
Desk: Zline Legacy Glass L Desk

  • Mid range, I'm guessing like a budget of $800?

    Main specs will be

Core i5/i3 max cost should be about $150.
get the same memory as me, was only $50.
max on motherboard should be $100
for video card, look ag the Nvidia 500 series and radon 6900 series
500w PSU, with atleast 40amps on the +12v rail
Single 500gb HDD was only lilike50

Then a decent case for around $75 and you should have a really decent gaming PC that will max out some games, but will struggle a little on newer demanding games coming out on high-max settings.

    Awesome +1

So about the mouse, keyboard, speakers, and monitor....does it matter how much I spend on those? Obviously I will wanna get a good monitor because I want it to look great, but I am not familiar with how important a mouse and keyboard are.

My bad I forgot the link...here it is, and the cost of the tower was 858 for theirs.

It will be around $1,100-$1,200. After you put in the cost of the desk, mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor.

I would spend around $50 on a good mouse, I would go with Logitech. And then maybe $20 on a cheap keyboard. Would look around $150-$200 for a monitor. Look for something with a 2ms response time, those will be the best ones for gaming. Mind you I got a real good deal on my monitor and desk and only spent $250 on both of them.

That build right there is almost the exact same as mine. I got a little better memory, a much better video card a bigger case. My tower was like $1,200. $140 for the OS, like $60 for some right angle SATA cables, and a DVI-I. Plus I'm running wireless on it, that was an extra $50, and the CPU cooler is $75.

I would go with an aftermarket CPU cooler as well. The stock cpu coolers tend to really suck.

So I was noticing that the Video card is usually one of, if not the most expensive things(Until you get to the extremely good processors) for a build, what exactly does that do? I am gonna assume that it handles all of the visuals besides actually being the monitor.

I am no expert but I believe so. The better the video card the better the visuals.

Well I know the video card plays the biggest role on the visuals.

Yes I have but it has been a few years. I always had help building mine but I know the video card is what powers the visuals.

Video card and plenty of RAM are big for gaming on a PC. You want the best video card for visuals so you can keep your fps high.

Yep video card is the most important thing you need for a gaming PC. Mine was $409, and the cpu I got was $220. I can max every game that is right now, and will most likely be able to max out games for aatleast 2 more years that come out. It should equal to atleast 25% of your PC budget.

  • I think I may start the gaming PC build planning process as well. I use a MacBook Pro for work and I'd like (a) a dedicated gaming system and (b) to be able to get back into compter gaming (been over six years).

  • Holy crap Crysis 3 looks amazing. Of course this is on PC.

On a side note I don't understand why we don't see more developers using CryEngine 3. This engine looks much better than Unreal.

I really like them. The story is just okay but the gameplay is a lot of fun.
