That's sweet. I'm going to start OCing my CPU here soon. Have it running at 45*C under load with the cooler I bought for it on stock settings. Fully copper with a 120m.

    Its the Zalman CNPS9900MAX-B.

Plan on taking it up to 4ghz.

Now we're just waiting on Mountie.

Yeah he said mine is overlocked or whatever it is called. It runs Skyrim beautifully. I am loving it so far. Can't wait to see how Dishonored looks.

Will definitely check out Torchlight. Heard good things so far. Waiting on Day Z for the stand alone version that is supposed to come out in December.

  • I wish I had a gaming PC. Unless it was just a console exclusive I would not buy another game for my 360 or PS3.

    Last week. Been playing Skyrim.

I refuse to believe you've had time to play Skyrim while playing Borderlands.

That is pretty much how I am going to be. Except for some MP games because everyone I play with is on PS3.

@vexerr I haven't actually played it that much yet. I have only played it for about an hour or so. I really just got Skyrim to test it out. Plus I wanted to see some of the mods.

  • MoH Warfighter beta is supposed to be available sometime today on Xbox Live. I am probably going to download and give it a quick play just to see if it lives up to the hype.

  • Watched some alpha/beta footage for the new Sim City... it's on the list.

I think I'm going to start planning a PC build as well. I love playing Xbox online since most of my friends play on there (and more on PS3, which is why I'll be investing in one of those, too, as well as to play all of the exclusives I've missed), but I miss mods and a lot of the PC-only/PC-better titles too much. I haven't had a gaming PC in like 8 years, so I think it's time.

Not looking forward to doing all that research again, though. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

  • Xbox 360 is where its at!!! Haha. I don't play games nearly as much as I used to, but borderlands hasn't left my xbox since Sept. 18. I wish blizzard would release an updated original starcraft. I want the top down 2d feel, just like the original. I wouldn't leave the office....ever.

  • Can one of you PC guys point me in the direction of some good blogs/articles/forums for research on parts and components? The last time I was doing research for a PC build, dual-GPUs had just hit the market and AMD was the only choice, so I'm a little outdated. lol

  • haven't had a game for pc since doom.

looked into it about a year ago, but i just couldn't justify spending that much on what will basically be a console for me.

what do you guys use for controls? mouse, keyboard or some kind of controller? do they make controllers like the shape of xbox for pc, since that's what i'm used to.

i looked into it to get a flight stick for ace combat.

as you can tell, i know almost everything there is to know about pc gaming (i don't know ish, except skyrim looks badass on the pc videos and the mods looks awesome), but if you guys could finish filling my knowledge to completion i'd be grateful.

and what's the cheapest you could get a decent pc for gaming?

I used a mouse/board 'cause I played mainly RTS and FPS (much more accurate to shoot with a mouse) but you can buy controllers that are exactly like the Xbox 360's or PS3's.

I had a joystick for IL-2 Sturmovik but it was really the only flight sim I ever owned. It made BF1942/BF2 more fun, though.

I'm planning on doing a triple-monitor set-up and getting a racing wheel with medals for some of the awesome racing sims you can get on PC.

As for pricing, it's all over the board. You can get a decent gaming rig for under $500 if you do your research and aren't obsessed with maxing out your settings on all the new titles. Top of the line rigs can flirt with $2000 or more. My old one crapped out right before Crysis hit the scene, but it was built to max out Half-Life 2. I think it cost me right around $1400, but I wasn't investing in dual-GPUs, which were brand new at the time.

I just recently built mine for $1,400, it maxes out Guildwars 2, Borderlands 2, and it maxed out Skyrim. It's all running butter smooth too, BL2 looks amazing on the PC. Especially with the extra PhysX capabilities.

Contemplating getting another 670GTX so I can max out Crysis 3 when it comes out.

Torchlight is a blast. It has the same makers of Diablo 2. So prepare for insane loot and crazy skills, combat and gore. A lot of fun.

  • Cave system I found. It wraps around a pretty long way. made some stairs down. Found some iron and coal, but no diamond yet. No red stone either. My hunger has my health bar all the way down, but I can't for the life of me find any food. The trees really aren't dropping any apples, and there are no animals on this island.

  • You playing solo or on a server? The one I normally play on has become... boring, so I'm looking to branch out.

Just playing by myself. I've never played on a server. I would really like to get maybe a 2 or 3 person server going. i wouldn't even know how to do that.

The inside of that cobblestone is actually pretty big. It digs down into the earth. I'll probably start working on a surface house here soon.

Very nice. What texture pack is that? I'm using one called "Heaven" I think. Not sure if I'll be able to create anything like that on this tiny island that I'm on. I love the creation in the bigger seeds, but I like the challenge of a survival island as well. I flip back and forth between the two.

I'm on a Mac at the moment, so setting up a server is a bit of a PitA. I think all you have to do is download an .exe for Windows to run a server. I've never operated one either, just played in them.

I think our server is just using the stock texture pack, but I'm not sure (it's been so long since I've played not on that server I don't remember what Minecraft actually looks like anywhere else lol). I remember really enjoying the "HD" texture pack a while back, but it was a bit buggy.

Yeah, my house is 3 stories and has a mine beneath it that goes all the way to the bedrock, but it's been tapped out. I've since opened another outside the castle walls. This server is nice 'cause you can put signs on things and make them "Private," meaning only I can open my chests, use my work stations, open my house door, etc.
