What I'm interested in is how much of an influence Black Ops 2 will have on the settings for big name FPS. Love them or hate them, the CoD titles have basically dictated the time frame in which most FPS take place. Obviously they joined the WWII fray already in progress, and while other titles did modern warfare, CoD4 really drove the movement from the WWII era to the modern era (Sadly, the Vietnam era never really took off. I don't know why, I personally really enjoyed Battlefield: Vietnam, the Vietcong series, Men of Valor, etc.). Now, we have BO2 that is pushing into the sci-fi frontier and I'm curious to see if that's where this group of FPS goes. IMO, it's interesting for two reasons:

    1. It's not like this area is uncharted. Halo, Kill Zone, Resistance, et al are already there. But we all know CoD pulls the industry around by a leash, at least the swath of titles in their little "pod."

    2. Does this mean Battlefield: 2143 is coming? panic

I disagree. Call of Duty really got their start by copying Battlefield. First you have Battlefield 1942 which is obviously WWII Era. 1942 came out in 2002. Then you had the first COD which was WWII Era released in 2003. They then released 2 more in 2005 and 2006, both of those being WWII Era as well.

Battlefield 2 released with a modern setting in 2005 and Battlefield 2142 in 2006. After seeing how badly COD 3 failed, Infinity Ward went to a modern setting in 2007 with COD 4: Modern Warfare.

Now, could you explain to me how COD dictates the time period?

Every game that has ever been made took influence from CoD. Even those that came before it.

Most of the bad things he said was about the campaign. I don't give a shit about the campaign. It will never get played. The multi player isn't new, isn't innovative, isn't spectacular. Its still 10x better than COD. At least they pit in team play elements, buddy system, offensive and defensive score chains that are 100% balanced...

"Even at its best, Warfighter's multiplayer is only ever pretty good.." this is what was said about multiplayer. The reason why I left COD is because it was the same game every year. Warfighter is the same damn game as BF3. At least COD is trying to change it up with different guns and a different approach to kill streaks. I think the point based kill streaks instead of straight kills is a great improvement.

I agree. Its a pretty good shooter. Warfighter is NOTHING like BF3. They have literally 0 in common with each other. Oh, and MOH has different guns. Most of these guns, I haven't seen before in a game.

Medal of Honor did point based kill streaks before CoD did with MoH 2010.

Can't wait for CoD to come out this year so everyone realizes it is still the same game as the previous 10 or however many there have been.

Everyone was saying the exact same things last year before MW3 came out. Military shooters are all that is wrong with gaming and I done with them. They have just become a big money grab.

Medal of Honor is really the WWII FPS that started it all, to be fair. But the point is that the INDUSTRY follows CoD. You're right, BF2 came out before CoD4, but the INDUSTRY as a whole didn't do the big shift from WWII to modern warfare until CoD did. Like it or not, CoD is the big man on campus in the FPS market right now (personally, I don't like it). It is what it is. Plenty of other games have had editable load outs, too, but when asked about it being added to Halo 4, do you know which game got brought up as the reasons for doing so? Call of Duty. At least for the time being, it's still king of the hill.

It is the most popular but is not nearly as innovative as some try to claim. I am not talking about you but some act like CoD invented gaming.

I'm not saying it's innovative. IMO, it hasn't been since its WWII days. I'm just saying it has the biggest following (and thus is the big cash chow) and that means a lot of titles that aren't CoD see it and decide to copy it to cash in on its situation.

I know MOH has done it before, but COD has not. My main issue with COD was camping in order to gain kill streaks. The point based system should make players look into the tactical side as well. Towards the end of BF3 I just felt like I was running for miles and not shooting anyone. I remember playing games for 30 minutes and only seeing 5 people.

War fighter looks exactly like BF, except for smaller maps. It's ran on the same Frostbite engine. You can tell that War fighter is just a BS filler to hold players over until the next BF.

Just like COD is being developed on the same engine from 2006? Its the same engine. That is where similarities stop between MoH and BF. Hell, DICE had nothing to do with MOH War fighter.

Stoked for Halo 4. Between all the multiplayer footage (and changes) and Forward Unto Dawn, they are building up HUGE expectations.

Never been a big Halo fan but it looks more promising than any other MP shooter coming out.

I am excited for Far Cry 3.

Far Cry has been a really good series. Far Cry was the first game I bought for my XBOX 360 in I think March of 2006. The first one is a lot different than Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 really broke ground with the open world setting in the FPS genre. Here is just a little bit of game play from Far Cry 3. This was from May, so it isn't fully polished obviously.

Halo 4 could be the sleeper game this year. 5 years ago no one would have ever called Halo a "sleeper" game, but the series got dull and 343 looks to have reinvigorated it. I'll wait to see if the game is actually good from a competitive standpoint (weapon balance, sensible maps, less features that cater to scrubs like in Reach), but there's no doubt it's very exciting.

    Assassin's Creed 3 Walkthrough Part 1 With...

Get an early look at what we can expect from Assassin's Creed 3 when it releases later this month in this preview commentated by creative director Alex Hutchinson. Set in Colonial America, the Assassin-Templar war has become involved in the American Revolution. As series' protagonist Desmond Miles, the player controls a young half-English, half-Native American man named Connor Kenway, drawn into the fight against tyranny when his home is attacked by Colonial British soldiers. Over the course of the game, Kenway will encounter historical figures including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Lee, Israel Putnam, Paul Revere, General Lafayette, John Pitcairn, William Prescott, King George III, Samuel Adams and Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. The story will span 30 years of Connor's life, from 1753 to 1783. Boston and New York will be cities that can be explored, as well as the American Colonial Frontier, spanning forest, cliffs, rivers, Connor's Mohawk village, and the settlements of Lexington, Concord and Charlestown. It will be open for the player to take part in hunting activities, and approximately one third of the story will take place in the Frontier. The entire Eastern seaboard will also be explorable via Connor captaining a ship. The main portion of Assassin's Creed III will be set before, during and after the American Revolution from 1753 to 1783, featuring a new protagonist: half-English and half-Native American, Connor Kenway, birth name Ratonhnhaké:ton (pronounced "Ra-doon-ha-gay-doon"). In addition to the historical period, the game will also feature the "present day" setting, where series' protagonist Desmond Miles must endeavour to prevent the 2012 apocalypse, as his story will develop and then reach a conclusion. Players will also experience more Desmond than in any previous titles. The game features a new engine, Anvil Next, built from the ground up, the engine is said to utilise full capability of current generation systems to deliver a "next-gen Assassin's Creed experience "Assassin's Creed 3 Walkthrough Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Let's Play Part 1" "Let's Play Assassin's Creed 3 Part 1" "Lets Play Assassin's Creed 3 Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Let's Play Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Playthrough Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Mission 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Mission 1 Walkthrough" "Assassin's Creed 3 Developer Commentary" "Assassin's Creed 3 Developer Commentary Walkthrough" "Assassin's Creed 3 Developer Walkthrough" "Assassin's Creed 3 Walkthrough Mission 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Gameplay Mission 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1" "Assassin's Creed 3 Gameplay Part 1" "Assassins Creed 3 Walkthrough Part 1"
