    So this...

Everything looks good to me, I wish I could see how many Amps run on the 12v rails of that PSU but I can't find them. You could be running 10kW but if it doesnt have enough amps running on the 12v rails it wont work. But with how advanced those things have become, 99% it will work just fine. If you intend on running two or more gfx cards in the future you will need to upgrade that.

SeaSonic is a good brand for them though. It will be fine as long as you're fine with not running more gfx cards.

Yea, I don't think I am. Honestly I have no idea what I'm doing. I just have had some people suggest this stuff to me. I just want to be able to play BF3 on high graphics, and Old Republic, ect

That PC will definitely do it. It will max out games for at least 4 years. When you're building, one thing you don't want to mess up is the risers for the motherboard, I had one in the wrong place before and didn't know, didn't figure it out for 2 weeks, and sent a motherboard back because I thought it was DOA (dead on arrival) lol. Other than that, building one is pretty simple.

  • Yea, I watched a new egg video on how to put it together and that was a point he touched on. I have a few people I know who have built them before, so we shall see. I'm nervous about dropping that kind of money on it, but its a graduation/promotion present im giving to me self haha

  • I like the NVIDIA cards better only because they aren't as loud when running them.

Also, I advise moving up to a 1000 watt power supply. Not a necessity, but to be on the safe side. Here is the one I will be getting once I GET A DAMN JOB. Can't wait! That price is with me getting a gaming keyboard and mouse which adds on I believe around $150. I will get a monitor somewhere around here. Probably Best Buy.

You also get BF3 and Arkham City for free if you get an NVIDIA card. Not sure what you get if you get a Radeon.

    So this...

I really wouldn't get an i7 for a gaming build. Hyperthreading (main reason to get an i7) isn't needed for gaming and won't be for awhile. If you don't mind spending like $100 more on a CPU, then go for it, but the gains for the price are definitely not even worth that, especially when it can go towards something else in your build. If you're going to be doing any video editing, etc then the i7 is worth it.

Personally, I would change the PSU to something like a seasonic or one of the better corsair/antecs, but that's up to you. 850 watts for wiggle room.

SSD's are nice to boot your OS from/play a few of your favorite games. From what I've heard, I'd say they are definitely worth it, especially since HDD's are overpriced right now. SSD's are apparently going to replace HDD's soon.

Nvidia vs Radeon is something you have to decide on, but the 7xxx Radeon line beats out any single GPU Nvidia has out right now (and they are apparently really quiet/run really cool). Nvidia's best single card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130655) is blown out of the water performance wise by the 7950 you have listed (when OC'd for sure), even more so by the similarly priced 7970.

Are you planning on building this asap? I ask this because 3-4 months down the road you could probably build that same PC for 2-300 less (Ivy Bridge CPU's/Nvidia's new Kepler GPU line are coming out), maybe more. Or you could go with one of the new IB CPU's for the same price as the Sandy Bridge 2500k right now and get what some people believe will be like a 8-12% performance increase (pretty significant for the same price now).

Anyways, I'm definitely not an expert on this, haha. Just started researching it all a couple weeks back, but I feel pretty confident in everything I said, based on what I've read/asked actual experienced PC guys. Hope it helps man.

  • Yea, I really would like to build it as soon as my tax refund is in. I've been doing a 5 year undergrad/grad program and will be done on feb 10. Needless to say, I havent been able to play anything as much as I'd like to. Also, the new star wars game is making me want to play pretty bad

Yeah for sure. Your build looks pretty damn good then. Like I said, I'd go with the more reputable PSU and stick with the 2500k if anything. Might want to go up to a 7970 with that saved cash for an even better price/performance GPU and future proofing.

Let me know how it turns out. Looking at a pretty similar build myself.

  • so what does everyone think of StarHawk? Of course its a beta and has a few bugs to fix but it is starting to get great. Me and some friends I played warhawk with forever got back together and played a 3 1/2 match with Starhawk saturday.. it is really really fun when you have experienced players going at it. This is one of the first capture the flag modes i have liked in a long long time.

The build and battle gameplay makes the groups of Attackers and Protectors equally important in gameplay for once

The first two were good games, but they took a year off to revamp the game. UFC 3 is looking 10x better because of that year off. I wish more developers would have the balls to take a much needed year off to improve a series.
