They knew it was coming, thats why the signed Curtis Lofton. I just dont think they knew it was this bad. I figured he would 8 games for help funding the Bounty program

Thought it would be around 6. Didn't think it would be for the season.

I agree bountygate was a problem, but I don't agree with this. Punish the dealers not the addicts, the hookers not the johns, and the coaches not the players. There's an extent where you have to look at this as good soldiers following the general's orders. Plus there's the fact you're basically taking away about 1/10th of a man's career.

Sounds like they think they played an integral role in this.

  • This is too far. Punish them, sure, but a whole season? Damn.

Four times the length of a suspension for PEDs.

Agree with this. The full season is a bit of overkill, imo.

  • It will never stick..unless Vilma has had a history the players union will fight and get it reduce to around 8-10 games. Goodell is over stepping here and he'll get put in his place in court.
Funny how all these rookies give him those big long hugs knowing they'll soon face his iron fist the first time they step out of line.
The owners will get him out of there soon enough.

  • Well the Saints just lost the leader of their defense for the whole season.

  • To far? They were going after knees and players coming off concussions. I know its football but if they have proof they were trying to hurt players and potentially end their careers one year is nothing. That tape from Williams will be played by every ex player in lawsuits vs the NFL for decades.

On top of everything they were able to change the majority of theur contracts to bonuses so the financial hit isnt nearly as bad.

It is of my understanding that the new collective bargaining agreement is written so basically the court legally has to side with the commssioners ruling.

I think you are correct plus nobody ITT knows the evidence that Goodell has on Vilma. It's easy to just say it's too harsh without knowing the full story.

    1) What is the evidence that Vilma was "going after knees and players coming off concussions"?
    2) All players try to hurt--not injure--their opponents, that's football; but what is the proof that Vilma tried to end the career of any player?

    1. Williams speech and it looks like Vilma was the ring leader.

    2. There is a big difference in going out to hurt a player and going and trying to hurt a player and have it documented enough the NFL thinks it needs to suspend you.

The NFL spends millions of dollars a year in legal fees fighting ex players over injuries and that tape by Williams will cost them hundreds of millions in payouts etc. I don't think they got suspended on a hunch.

  • I think the suspension is fine for Vilma. Dude was putting up his own money (reportedly $10,000.00 on a couple of occasions) to go out and purposely try and injure another player.

    UTK66

  • The suspensions aren't about hits. If they were about bad hits, Roman Harper would have been suspended also. This is about putting money into the bounty program. The league already punishes players for bad hits. They weren't going to retroactively go back and punish players for bad hits. This is all about how much money they put into the program and how big a role each player had in promoting the system.

I personally think it's overboard, but Goodell's actions throughout this process have been those of someone trying to make sure the same situation NEVER repeats itself.

    1) williams's speech proves that he (williams) advocated that players go after knees ant take illegal head shots...And that he (williams) is a weasel And should be suspended indefinitely (permanently IMO). But what is the evidence that Vilma went after guys' knees And tried to take illegal head shots?

    2) Where is the documentation that Vilma was trying to take out guys' knees And deliver illegal head shots?

  • I don't have an issue with Vilma getting suspended but a year is extreme imo. We don't know what the league has on Vilma but when guys like Stallworth, Pac Man Jones, Micheal Boley and Aqib Talib are still in the league and clicking checks, something about this doesn't sit well with me.

  • Goodell is a puss, hope he doesn't come to New Orleans anytime soon. Doesn't matter we will still win the south, be in the playoffs, and a chance at the super bowl. I hope the Saints hurt every QB they play this year, would make me laugh

Highly unlikely. Their defense wasn't that good to begin with.

If ya'll don't sign Brees, you won't win a game this year.

Seeing as though there is a 0% chance that they don't sign Brees I wouldn't worry about it. I still say that my Falcons beat the Saints in the division this year.
