I like all BBQ. Tough to find good BBQ down here in Miami. Mostly Cuban mojo style. Still good, but not traditional

absolutely have. haven't done a whole one in years, but it was delicious, and needed zero sauce. we do butts all the time - no sauce necessary. just juicy, smoked deliciousness.

Vinegar Based is more of the purist form in NC and my personal favorite. That said everyone has different tastes and I have enjoyed wonderful BBQ in Memphis, Texas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Kansas City, Carribean, etc.
The reason Vinegar-Based Pork BBQ (Eastern-NC Style... From Goldsboro - Greenville is really area that produces the real stuff the best, though there are some great joints from Hillsborough --> East.) is my favorite is because of the simplicity of the sauce. There is no where for the meat to hide. You can either taste the complexities of the smoke or you can't... there is no extra flavors to cover or mask flaws or general lack of smoked flavoring. If you can master true open-pit Eastern NC whole hog Barbecuing with a simple vinegar sauce... you can basically make all the rest by adding various sauces techniques or elements.

Oh, and Vinegar base is terrible, IMO. Live in eastern NC, and people love it here for some reason.
