Visiting Columbia, SC...

  • Things to do? Things not to do? Best place to tailgate?

  • The new tailgate area is great, especially compared to what it used to be, but I am not sure if there are spots open to public.

    How old are you?

If young, five points is where it is at for good bars.

If older, head down to the vista. Lots of good bars and eateries.

I put it on our board, and asked for people to come help you out. I have been away for too long to give you any great info!

Pretty much what Stouds said. Best tailgating is the new Farmers Market area right next to the stadium, although I'm not sure you can get a one-game pass. There is still tons of good tailgating around though.

I'd recommend the Vista, there is some good nightlife down there. Five Points is great too, but it will be swarming with cops because of some crime down there lately.

  • Thanks, I seriously doubt ill stay after the game (THe drive from south Charlotte to Columbia is just a little over an hour) so I'm kind of looking for stuff to do before the game.

Edit : there is a chance I might hang around after the game, just not 100% sure yet.

Wait, on Friday? or before the noon kickoff? Not much going on outside of tailgate before noon games.

  • If you're talking about Friday night the only place in Five Points I would go would be Salty Nut Cafe. Place should be slammed with coeds. Just about anywhere in the Vista should be fun, just walk around and check out different places until you find something you like.

As far as tailgating before the game, I doubt there will be much going on. Hell, I usually don't even get down there until like 11 for noon games. Slam a Bojangles biscuit and a beer and walk in.

I thought Salty Nut burned down. It's been almost 2 years since I've been to a game up there so I could be mistaken.

5 points is fun though. Cola has a really great (vastly underrated) bar scene.

It did catch fire in January. Some GDI threw a molotov cocktail in it but it didn't burn to the ground. Just a lot of smoke damage, etc. They just reopened the weekend of the George game and did a lot of improvements while they had the chance.
