My goodness,,, why must there be a free option?
Why do some people feel such a sense of entitlement?

Because we got rid of poll taxes in the 1800s as unconstitutional. Nobody should have to pay to vote.

Wait, I never said they should pay to vote. No one does that.... But I thought you meant an option to get there ID free...
    Everyone should have ID anyway.

What type "free option" are you referencing anyway,,just for clarity.

I'm saying, if people are going to insist on voter ID laws, there should be a free voter ID available for those people who don't have driver's licenses, military IDs, or passports. The ID would serve no purpose beyond being an official document for the purposes of identifying the voter.

Forcing someone to pay to vote (either directly or indirectly) is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause - established in Harper.

Every adult should have id anyway....
To not is simply foolish and irresponsible, and frankly you seem entirely too intelligent to honestly think that requiring voter ID without establishing yet another give away program in this country is a form of poll tax...
My goodness,, when are people gonna start paying their way in this country and stop feeling like the government needs to always give someone something.
Why do you feel we need to creat FURTHER dependence on the system at every turn.

As I just explained to you, the Supreme Court established that any required fee or payment as a prerequisite to voting is unconstitutional. This includes indirect payments - if someone is forced to have an ID to vote, and the only way to get an ID is to pay accompanying expenses, then it's no different than a person being asked for those expenses at the polls. Voting is a fundamental right in this country, and nobody should be barred from voting simply because they don't have money.

A free option isn't creating further dependence on the system, requiring voter ID in the first place is creating further dependence on the system.

No,, requiring voter ID is simply taking a large opportunity for fraud out of the system.
Just as what the op article shows.
You can use your cute little face palm icon all you want, but if you believe in some twisted logic that requiring an adult to have iD is some form of a poll tax then you are beyond reason anyway.

    Everyone should have ID.

And honestly, since some people seem to think everything should be given to them as opposed to working for anything,, I would even concede to giving them an ID if it would eliminate voter fraud.

But I am shocked at the mentality that people like you have... That an effort to legitimize our democratic process can be convoluted into being seen as a tax, I firmly believe in the Constitution, but obtaining IDbeing considered a "poll tax" Is ignorant and truthfully just another way to avoid legitimizing elections.

I have had a state issued ID for 25 years,,, and would not consider any other way...
But then again I have had a job since I was old enough to work, and I guess that would be considered offensive in some way also...
    Pitiful.

  • Any decent contributing member of society should and would have an ID in the first place. There are probably a few Dem votes who don't but screw them.

That said IDs should be required in the first place. I don't see anything wrong with National IDs, and proof on demand.
