I'm saying, if people are going to insist on voter ID laws, there should be a free voter ID available for those people who don't have driver's licenses, military IDs, or passports. The ID would serve no purpose beyond being an official document for the purposes of identifying the voter.
Forcing someone to pay to vote (either directly or indirectly) is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause - established in Harper.

Every adult should have id anyway.... To not is simply foolish and irresponsible, and frankly you seem entirely too intelligent to honestly think that requiring voter ID without establishing yet another give away program in this country is a form of poll tax... My goodness,, when are people gonna start paying their way in this country and stop feeling like the government needs to always give someone something. Why do you feel we need to creat FURTHER dependence on the system at every turn.

As I just explained to you, the Supreme Court established that any required fee or payment as a prerequisite to voting is unconstitutional. This includes indirect payments - if someone is forced to have an ID to vote, and the only way to get an ID is to pay accompanying expenses, then it's no different than a person being asked for those expenses at the polls. Voting is a fundamental right in this country, and nobody should be barred from voting simply because they don't have money.
A free option isn't creating further dependence on the system, requiring voter ID in the first place is creating further dependence on the system.

Any decent contributing member of society should and would have an ID in the first place. There are probably a few Dem votes who don't but screw them.
That said IDs should be required in the first place. I don't see anything wrong with National IDs, and proof on demand.
