WTF is wrong with US Soccer?

  • Don't use the whole, "Oh if there was a bigger following in the sport in the country, we'd be better.", that's stupid.

no one cares about track or swimming and we rape on the world stage... why can't we do better?

But that is the answer. Track and swimming are not the world's favorite sports and they require a certain level of wealth to train (except distance running).

  • From ESPN...

"We need to get an edge more nastier," said U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, the former German star and coach. "Maybe we're a little bit still too naive. Maybe we don't want to hurt people. But that's what we've got to do. You've got to do that at the end of the day. So we've got to step on their toes more and get them more frustrated and make a case with the referee maybe as well, for us, not only the opponent."

    Yes it does.

    MildReTIDEation

  • Klinsmann, a German who moved to California with his American-born wife after retiring as a player in 1998, said the U.S. team has to be more assertive with officials.

"You watch big teams in the world, what they do, and there's a call going against them -- Barcelona is one of them -- they come with 10 guys towards the referee," he said. "The referee is confused. He doesn't know even know who to show a yellow card."

Landon Donovan said "that's not really in our character as Americans."

"We try to play the game fair," Donovan said. "We don't really dive. We don't do those kind of things."

It all boils down to the fact that it just means less to Americans.

  • I'm just saying, for most of the countries that kick our asses routinely in soccer, it's where the put all their marbles. Kids there have limited access to distractions like football, baseball, track, swimming, etc.

  • Makes no sense. Hell, the US women have dominated world soccer at times.

    Big A

  • We need to convince the Rajon Rondo's and Julio Jones's to play soccer. Then maybe we can dominate.

But I think we're still getting better.

While this may be true, the fact that our national women's team is consistently one of the best in the world means that it can and should happen with the men.

Wrong most country's in the world do not support their womens national team. There are only about 5 good teams in the world in womens soccer.

Yes and Brazil is one of the worst countrys at doing it... I was at the game last night every time they would get touched they would fall and act like they just got shot.. Then when the ref turns around after giving them the call the player would stand up and take off running again.

Refs eat that up for some reason.

  • Kids live and breathe soccer in other countries. Here kids grow up idolizing football and basketball stars.

If our youth put the time in soccer as they did the other two sports we may be able to build a power.
