lots of them have financial planners and still end up broke - just dont get it

The financial planning industry is a sham, most FP's don't know what they are doing either. The one's that do, see an idiot athlete a mile away and rip him off with high commission actively managed funds...I guess it is still a better plan than 240 pairs of Jordans, multiple baby mamas, and an entourage.

I totally understand the capitalistic reasons for why athletes make so much money. In fact, I have no problem with how the process works.

That said, it's a travesty that stupid people are allowed to make that much money. I'm starting to think financial planners should be a requirement for professional athletes (and celebrities).

I see this as a good thing. They are spreading all the wealth helping the rest of us out.

  • Sapp just sounds stupid and annoys the hell out of me. He's lucky to even get 45k a month. You've got to be one dumb fellow to make that much and still be "broke".

  • My cousin played with him in Oakland and hated him. Shocked he's bankrupt when he had a jet. Lots of money goes into running those much less the cost. Its not what you make its what you save.

Also how can the NFL not suspend him for the Shockey tweets. He is an NFL employe at the network.

What's even more sad is that a lot of these teams have financial advisors and similar services available to their players and yet they still somehow manage to screw it up.

I imagine its similar to the show entourage where they just laugh the dude off and never listen to them

Those dudes can't force them to do anything and telling a grown man with money for the first time no sounds impossible

They mentioned the 2002 super bowl ring. Unless he was at Miami in 91 when y'all won the title.

It was misprint. 1991 is the ring that he lost.
