    What Saban did, and does, is bull crap. You SEC folk need to stop trying to convince yourself that this shit is okay. You can't (or you shouldn't) string a guy along to the near end of the process and then pull his scholly because there is someone else you would rather have; leaving that kid in many cases SOL when all his other school options have rull classes. Heck, why not get every single top kid to commit and pull their offers on the last day just to fuck with them and prevent them from going to rivals. Old Saint Nick at his best.

    If the kid's offer would have been pulled, I would understand completely. Greyshiriting does not equate to a scholarship being pulled.

    That is an incredible oversimplification. A greyshirt in Philon's case is the equivalent of telling a HS student at the last minute that he is now considered not good enough to enroll with his friends/teammates that he has spent the last several months getting close with.

    Imagine how you would feel at 17-18 years of age. I would want to kick Gene Chizik's butt if he did that to my son.

    That doesn't do anything to excuse a blatantly shitty practice of a coach not honoring an agreement. If you want to avoid greyshirt situations, don't take a kid's commitment months ago. Period. It's totally garbage to have a kid shut down his recruitment because he believes you'll hold him a spot, while instead you're basically keeping him as insurance while you continue to secretly shop for better players at his position.
