How does smoking a plant do that? Do people who smoke have eroding morals and make bad decisions (sans the choice to smoke, which by the way is infinitely worse than smoking marijuana)?

People have been doing a fine job of being unethical and making poor decisions without drugs or alcohol for centuries.

  • I worked for many years in a field where I came across all kinds of substance users/abusers. Marijuana doesn't hold a candle to the sh*t storm alcohol causes for people. Every (almost) alcoholic or inebriated person I came in contact with wanted to fight, run in their vehicle, be an a$$, basically an all round idiot. They beat their spouses, they beat their kids and they beat their dogs.. they were mean, cruel and laughed about doing it.. except for those that cried snot bubbles because they knew what was coming.

Marijuana, on the other hand.. 99% never fought, never wanted to fight.. they can't run lol, almost never seen was domestic violence, they always had food for the kids, they loved watching cartoons with the kids.. I've even had them offer for me to come in their house while they cooked dinner and wanted me to join.. lol. "No brownies for me, please"

Is marijuana perfect? Well, no.. However, when I see what alcohol does to people and families.. and what marijuana does not do.. It baffles me that marijuana is not legal and alcohol is.. I understand the history and the alcohol lobby in the 20's and 30's that doomed marijuana.. yet, we should be smarter than this.. Jails FULL of marijuana pleas and convictions.. stupid.

Legalize it, tax the hell out of it and benefit from the actual productive traits (medical, clothes, construction...) it has.

    Rant over..

or the opposite could happen. do you think alcohol should be illegal for the same reasons?

  • LULZ at using alcohol to try and make a valid point. Of course its not good, thats what it says on the bottle.

I have nothing for a pot head, and it.will certainly hinder.or already hemorrhaging morality in America even more. There is statistics to prove that someone who smokes marijuana is more likely to try cocaine, but hey, people wanna do what they want so thats cool too.

There are also statistics showing that more people abuse prescription drugs than any illegal substance and that nicotine, which is legally found in cigarettes, entices users to seek out "hard" drugs like cocaine, meth, etc. more than marijuana.

But you already know this, because the whole idea of the "slippery slope" is a fallacy.

Deaths from "Prescribed" medication, long ago overtook the top spot from any other 'illegal' substance..

There's really only one major difference between the legal drugs and the illegal drugs, and that is:

    Read the label.

So we should just outlaw anything that's hazardous to someone's health? So should we also ban alcohol, processed foods, cars, and reality TV?

Granted, I don't even like it when people smoke, but it's not my place to say. And before you make some comment about, "Well, meth is bad and we outlaw it!" Cigarettes, just like alcohol and pot, =/= meth or cocaine. Apples and oranges.

Oh so people who are willing to try one drug are willing to try another? You don't say. Has nothing to do with marijuana being the first drug they tried and everything to do with them being the type of person that's willing to experiment with drugs.

You think if there was no such thing as marijuana that cocaine and other drugs would have less users? Because I would argue the exact opposite.

Because no one smokes right now am I right?

You argument sounds a lot like that of Temperance activists of the 1910s and 1920s. America went to prohibition and back and by all accounts things were better when alcohol was legal.

The fact is legal marijuana would mean not many more people smoking, a safer product, increased tax revenues, decreased likelihood of moving on to harder drugs, and it would hurt organized crime and drug dealers.
