We need to develop a marketing campaign for 247

  • It's a little slow on the board at times.... maybe if we all put in a few minutes of thought we could come up with a plan to boost membership/participation.

    I guess it's in bad taste to go on other boards and promote, but hey, it works...

  • could have drawings for a free month or other small prizes. The amount of posts you make a week/month could determine if you qualify. Start handing out achievement badges and things like that. Seems a lot of people on here are a big fan of badges.

  • Good ideas Cooter --- that would definitely promote participation around here for the people already on board who stay quiet.

    For outside promotion --- we should just all try and talk someone into signing up. Maybe we could have a referral thing where if you talk someone into signing up, you get a free month, or something along those lines. That could get complicated though.

  • I know people want more traffic, but just remember, more traffic isn't guaranteed to be a good thing for the board. Also will give me headachestype_angry

    My suggestion for that is have a no troll/flamer policy..ban 'em or brand 'em. They could have a giant red T under their name..like the scarlet letter. Of course there would be pathetic posters out there that would wear the T with pride. The point Im trying to make is if we make this board unwelcomed to trolls/flamers than they wont come here. There is still plenty of good posters on TOS that could make the switch, some incentive needs to be offered(buy first month get second free). The traffic will pick up closer to football season and the mods are going to have rule with an iron fist

    The problem is, people have heard about the board. They have heard that the mods over here explain their actions, and do not hide behind a monitor when banning or whatever. The people have heard about the great analysts over here that interact with their customers. The people have heard about the great software that this site uses. With everyone already hearing about this, the ones that haven't made the jump obviously are just tied to their site, and have no intentions of leaving for anything.

    I guess if you offer a month free that might make some more traffic, but even that isn't guaranteed because people are so set in their ways. Stubborn if you will.

    No budget for that right now. Though we have quite a few big properties, we're still in our infancy and don't have money put aside for something like that.

    Do some guerilla marketing... anyone attending GameDay this fall willing to make a 24/7 sign and get on camera?

    I probably won't be at any of them so that excludes me. Just an idea.

    I was set with in my old ways with TOS site too..but there is always a breaking point. There will come a point with posters over there where sentimentality loses out to frustration.

    This seems like a good call --- but not sure if the individual sites are their own entities or if 24/7 (or it's parent company) runs everything. Based on how things are structured, this could be a good idea... even if the sites take a little bit of a hit on the local ad at first, it will have to be somewhat effective.

  • I'm thoroughly against any thing that rewards on a posting basis. That's begging for trolling, flaming, and cramming the boards with threads.

    A referral program, or something of the sort, would likely do wonders though. Give the current members an incentive to spread the word, and the new members to get a discount/extended time on their new membership.

    One more thing--Social Media. I know a ton of the staffers here have Twitter accounts, and I'm sure there's some kind of 247Sports page... Use them! Promote some kind of event with a hashtag, and maybe get 24/7 trending. I follow almost 400 people on Twitter, and 98% of them are sports related. There's a ton of fans on there, so use the medium.

  • I think a referral system would work well. Give every member a link with referral code in it that they can share wherever, giving the new user a free month on signup, and the member a one month extension on their current sub if the new user becomes a VIP.

  • IMO it's only a matter of time before 247 takes over but traffic is simply not going to pick up much until more team sites are added.
