Wealth Inequality in America

I did. Again what's the point? How to you propose we solve this?

Well, I would say step one is admitting we have a problem.

Its a quality of life issue. For all humans.

Sounds like a personal problem. Some people just have it better than others

Yeah, didnt watch it but I am sure she believes since Obama has used the words wealth redistribution that he's a socialist right out of Czarist Russia. The super productive should lead super awesome lives. 1-10 mill a year supplies that and more. Above that should be hammered and 1-10 million earners should pay 45% or so IMO.

And what becomes of this enormous piggy bank that you just created?

Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!

  • I think it should be redistributed to people who are either proven physically unable to work or otherwise work at least 20 hours a week. Minimum wage jobs. We just want to create a nation where most households make at least 20K a year for each adult or at least 10K a year per child present. We have to try and erase the charity side of it. People need to be forced to contribute.

    fsufsu

  • Yea. I can't condone what fsufsu is saying, but a more progressive and flat tax system would be a good start.

LOL. Exactly. What I have learned from this thread is that rich people are rich, and the poor are poor...imagine that. Not sure how it effects my life, or why I should give a ****. I take its as I am supposed to get all jealous and want to knock those rich down a notch or two.

Without sounding like any side of the fence, do you really not care about other people? Especially those that need help?

You should give a **** because we're not savages. We're supposed to care about each other.

  • TroyTide is too stupid to realize that economies with higher inequality grow at a slower average pace than those in the middle of the bell curve.

Very few people in this country are starving or have no where to live, and if someone is they must be the biggest moron on the planet since they live in a society in which the government actively advertises public assistance like free food, money and housing for people like them.

You know you can't use that word. Haha. If that were the case WTF would the govt do. You really think they are going to want to have people less dependant on them. They bank on the fact that people "need " them. All that does is turn the "rich" into the govt. giving handouts to others. Doesn't solve the problem of equality. Still same problem just someone else footing the bill

In any proposed economy the ultra productive would still have far and away more than the middle class and common citizen. Their lives would not compare.

How much more unequal are we than those other societies? Please show me the vast difference.

Also of many of those "more equal societies" the average person accumulates less in a lifetime than the average American.

That we should CARE. We can have discussions ad nausea about welfare, social programs, whatever. I've been on both sides of said discussions. It's the total disregard and flippant care for the life of another human being that bothers me. We're not plants. We're not dogs. Hell, we're not even Russians or Koreans or whatever. We're AMERICANS and we're HUMAN BEINGS. We're supposed to care about each other, supposed to be neighbors.

"For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’"

TT made that number up arbitrarily.

It's just talking about the differences between the ideal, perceived and real levels of equality.

Actually no, another poster "fsufsu" is the one who made it up.

No, people don't care. That's the point. I've seen it time and time again in multiple threads on here. People don't care about other people. It's as obvious as the night sky outside my window.

And really, what's so wrong with giving a little bit to help those that need it? That's just another example of not caring. Giving a little to help =/= giving all to help a freeloader, but that's what people equate it to. And I've never supported that.

No one should be required to give any of their money if they do not want to.

If people need more money....get another job
