Wealth Inequality in America

No one should be required to give any of their money if they do not want to.

If people need more money....get another job

Whatever happened to patriotism? To brotherhood? How can you care so little about your fellow man?

Don't see how Bill Gates getting richer affects my life any, but whatever.

If Bill Gates was a 5 billionaire instead of 40 would he be worse off? Would the couple million families that are brought out of poverty have better lives?

Let me guess...you support even more handouts than what we have now?

I still don't see what this has to do with the wealth inequality we are supposed to care so much more about. We already have programs that keep people fed, housed, etc. not really our duty to provide more than that.

How would Bill Gates having less money bring families out of poverty? If the answer is that the astronomical tax rate you are proposing would be given to the poor I would say all that would do is send the Bill Gates' of the country out of the country, then we are all screwed.

If Bill Gates has $100-billion instead of $40-billion am I any worse off? No...I wouldn't be.

Not handouts. Work programs. Something, this isn't my strongest discussion topic. I know what I agree with but dont understand all the levers to the system well enough to provide a solution.

The fact is you don't care. Jeff doesn't care. And a ton of Americans don't care. You say there are, "programs that keep people fed, housed, etc." but don't care how they work (or say they should be abolished) without any concern for anyone.

Look, I like you guys, but you represent a large group of Americans that no longer cares about other Americans. It's not just class warfare or race warfare or whatever warfare; it's just simple American warfare. We're a nation that's supposed to stand as one, supposed to care about each other, supposed to stand as one. But we hate each other, we really do. I could write an essay about how people detest the successful and the poor for various reasons. We are the most abhorrent and cynical country/generation in ages. And it really just kills me to watch it happen.

Sorry for caring about people. I guess that makes me a bad person.

  • We have programs that are set up to keep people out of extreme poverty that serve a small segment of the population and we have other less effecient programs. To say that: look at the current situation, it doesn't work. Why would something else work? Lol. That's retarded dumb.

Institute a flatter, more progressive tax structure invest that in R&D, infrastructure and education and see what that does to income equality. Not throw it at welfare programs. Lol.

How can you say people don't care just because they dont support taking others money and handing it out?

    Sorry, I dont support that.

Because I haven't read one post, not ONE, that says you care. If you do, I'll admit I'm wrong. But I've never seen it.

Infrastructure needs more money education does not. Also It's hard to imagine how our tax structure could be any more progressive since the poorest among us pay nothing more than sales taxes and get significant refunds on what little they contribute to SS, MED, and Unemployment and the small amount of state and federal taxes they pay in.

Hell some people who pay nothing in at all still "get money back" somehow.

What is it like the top 50% pay all the taxes in this country more or less? I mean damn, how much more progressive can you get?

WTH? I agree we shouldn't let them starve or freeze in the streets, but we are already taking care of that. What else should we do for them?

  • Jeff and other hillbilly don't do mission work or homeless work I can assure you of that. I have done inner city renewal projects for 8 years now. And through work I venture into 750K dollar homes 5-6 times a year. It's appalling. I grew up in a middle-to-upper-middle class American household and I lived like a freaking king. No one needs 100 times more money than we had. No one. And if for a generation people get it for doing nothing that may be what it takes. The next generation will see how their parents took the opportunity to chug all the sugar soda they could and they've been on dialysis since age 45. The next generation will say they'd rather find a career that stimulates them than sit at home and waste away.

How about we figure out a way to make those people better off without anyone, other than said person(s), sacrificing. Maybe we should make it mandatory that ALL people attend 4 yrs of college. Maybe we should start by making it mandatory that people finish high school. Maybe we could make it mandatory that if you can not pay for your first child you are imprisoned for having more. All radical and far fetched but let's put some responsibility back on the ones who need the help.

The problem is the freeze in sh!tty government housing, they starve on sh!tty government food programs. Not every poor person is the guy with an iPhone abusing his or her assistance.

I'm sorry, but maybe I care too much, but to quote The Newsroom: "We used to wage war on poverty, not poort people."

You are right...I don't. Even if one doesnt need the so called money they still earned it and shouldn't be penalized for that

You're not a bad person. I think most people HATE being told what to do. We are constantly force fed the thought by the govt that it is somehow our job to take care,of those who can't take care of themselves. It is literally shoved down our throats and people resent it.
I would work 10 jobs to take care of anyone in my family, but people I don't know, they can fend for themselves. If that makes me an a hole then I guess aim an a hole

Edit. I am not talking about the truly disabled. But I have said many times before the segment of people who,are sponges ruin it for the rest
