    Key word is liked

    As in past tense

Coaching at the elite level passed him by the day he hired his youngest son over Norm Chow

I liked Bo Jackson once upon a time, doesn't mean i want him right now today at RB

  • My top five after looking at box scores, watching highlights, and watching a good chunk of about 8 games this weekend:
    1. Alabama (They're ahead of the others because they drilled a team that I perceive to be better than the teams the other 4 played.)
    2. USC
    3. LSU
    4. Oregon (Again, I put UO ahead of FSU because I think they probably played a better team.)
    5. Florida State

Best team in each major conference after week 1:
    ACC: Florida State
    Big XII: West Virginia
    Big East: Youngstown State
    Big Ten: Ohio State
    Pac-12: USC
    SEC: Alabama

    How did Iowa do?
Iowa ran the ball well, played solid defense aside from a 73 yard TD run, and played very good special teams, especially in the 4th quarter. Iowa has an inexperienced DL group, so not getting great pressure early on isn't surprising. The only serious frustration was the complete inability to move the ball through the air. I've heard Texas fans complain for years about Greg Davis' horizontal passing game, but I didn't think they were being fair. Well, I found out today that maybe they were being fair. Hopefully it's just first game jitters, and it will get worked out soon. If not, it will be very frustrating to sit through every week.
Two thoughts following Iowa's win over NIU:
    1. Soldier Field badly, badly needs field turf. Footing was just dreadful today, as it is every game at what is otherwise a fantastic stadium in a beautiful setting.
    2. In 2009, Iowa used a 4th quarter comeback and a little bit of special teams magic to defeat Northern Iowa by 1 point in week 1. The Hawkeyes started they year 9-0 before going on to win the Orange Bowl. In 2012, Iowa used a 4th quarter comeback and a little bit of special teams magic to defeat Northern Illinois by 1 point in week 1.

    Solid post

My eyes tell me FSU > ORegon but its very early, too early really

VT still is yet to play and im certain that is FSU's toughest game

But i can't see how their OL will be able to handle our speed from our front 7

Its why they always lose to top 5 teams, they get whipped in the trenches

If our OL is healthy for that game we will beat them

Playing them twice could be interesting too, won't be easy

A quick statistical look at how anemic Iowa's offense was today:

Iowa ran 82 plays. Those plays went for 268 yards. That's an average of 3.27 yards/play.
RB Damon Bullock had a great game. He had 33 touches for 176 yards. That's 5.33 yards/play. He scored the only touchdown.
The rest of the offense went for 92 yards on 49 plays. That's 1.88 yards/play.

2-4: SoCal/LSU/Oregon: Play someone first before getting compared to #1

    5. WVU: Fun offense for sure. Not sure they could beat a physical quality team like LSU/Bama/SoCal. Think they are step below and probably a fringe top ten, but after one week, they get the distant 5th behind this years big boys

  • 1. bama - beat the best opponent that any of the top teams played and did it convincingly with defense.
    2. USC - offense was rolling and defense played well
    3. LSU by default. nothing flashy but took care of business in a vanilla fashion
    4. Oregon - ridiculous offensive production in first half. defense is supposed to be better but gave up alot of points. im assuming alot of backups were in.
    5. FSU - dominated a garbage team like they should have. played a vanilla offense and clearly wanted to work on running game. defense did their thing. 3 tos, 6 sacks, 1ypc on ground.

    solid contender for top 5
WVU - good offensive production but questionable defense. marshall scored way too many points

    everyone else
arkansas - need to see more. defense gave up a bunch of points
oklahoma - really shaky but potential to be top 10. not impressed
USCE - gtfo. shouldnt be top 10
nebraska - martinez actually showed he could pass the ball. might make a run in the coming weeks.

14 points against WVU's first team defense = too many points? Marshall was a bowl winning team from last year at least. Not like they are Bowling Green.

    1. TE Kyle Carter is going to be an All-American before he graduates. BOB's system is only going to help him.

    Negatives
    1. Ted Roof's defense
    2. Defensive line pressure was pathetic

agree with you and not sure a WVU team could beat a Georgia , Arkansas or even SC this year shrug

i didnt see the game because it wasnt broadcast here but i mean as an overall team. im taking depth into account. we had rookies in the game in the 3rd quarter and i saw some walkons in the game in the last 8 mins. i look at things from top to bottom. i do give you some credit because you finally ditched the 3-3-5 defense and are making a transition so there will be growing pains

Wow, now you are really stretching. But that is your opinion, and I'm sure WVU will prove you wrong this season. SC looked like garbage. Arkansas has less of a defense than WVU. WVU vs. UGA would be a great game.

Ohio State receiving top-5 votes? You must not have watched the game. Not saying this because I hate them, but they have issues that need to be worked out. They are a top-10/15 team, but there are a handfull of teams who proved far more than OSU did yesterday.

A lot of teams have issues to be worked out. And a lot of teams played cup cakes.

I think Braxton Miller, in this scheme, gives them a chance to ascend as the season moves along.

Yeah, he does give them a chance to ascend as the season moves along. But right now, based on yesterdays game, they did nothing to prove they're a top-5 team.

fair enough and not saying WVU isnt a great team but am saying i think that a couple of other SEC schools and maybe even Ok St and Vt could play with WVU this year ; time will tell
