Expect the front 4 to look like this
NT-William Campbell with Ondre Pipkins rotating
    DT-Jibreel Black
    SDE-Craig Roh
    WDE-Brennan Beyer

Not great but solid, our back 7 is our strength, though.

Edit- we weren't expecting much from Wormley, maybe rotate a little bit at SDE but I think now Strobel and Godin will rotate in his place.

Really really high on Pipkins. Was pissed we didn't offer. Would have been great NT. So which of those started last year and how many snaps did the others average a game?

Can you go a little more in depth for me? Believe you lost two starters and moved a few kids around. How much PT did the new starters get last year? Sorry to hear about Wormley, what were UM fans expectations for him?

DL a big questionmark. One DT a converted DE who only weighs 280. NT a former 5 star career underachiever. Best passrushing DE likely suspended. Probably my biggest worry is getting pushed around in the trenches.

I imagine Wormley might have gotten some PT as a rotational player, sucks that he tore his ACL but if it was going to happen it's probably best that it happened now. As far as the rest of the DL goes, Michigan will have Will Campbell at NT, Jibreel Black at the 3-tech (used to play DE), Craig Roh at SDE, and Clark (currently suspended)/Breyer at WDE. Black and Roh both put on a bit of weight, but Black is still around 280 which is on the small side for a 3tech. He does have lots of athleticism though which will help, but stopping the run may be a problem.

The bright side is that Hoke is originally a DL coach, Mattison is originally a DL coach, and then there's also the current DL coach Montgomery. So the DL gets quite a bit of attention from coaches, which is responsible for taking a unspectacular group last year (outside Martin) and turning them into a very productive unit.

    Only Roh started, at WDE.

Roh is the only returning starter but they all saw meaningful snaps last year. Word out of camp is that Pipkins is impressing, extremely athletic for his size.

Saban and 7 new starters against a running QB presents a challenge. Of course I think y'all roll but Shoelace might make some plays.

How is Michigans DL? If they don't have a decent DL, it's over before it starts.

    Lesticals gets it.

UM lost 2 on an average DL. They may have a decent DL, but they do not have a GOOD DL 2-deep. Barring injury, Bama will rotate 3-4 above average backs (Lacy, Yeldon, Hart & Fowler) and run behind a VERY GOOD OL. UM may keep the ground game in check early on, but they will be gassed by the 2nd half and the rushing yards pile up as the opportunity for D-rob to make a play ends. Whether it is close or not depends on his ability to make a few quick strike plays (or ST/ turnover points).

    Just the most intriguing matchups

NC State vs. Tennessee Auburn vs. Clemson Michigan vs. Alabama

NCSU vs UT.... Tough one, but I will go with coaching and Obrien is a very good one. 30-27 or smething like that

Aub v CU ..... I think Aub as CU is going to rake against weaker teams putting up massive numbers but weak lines will make them more pedestrian versus quality teams. Aubbie is a year or two away from peaking again, but still very solid team

Mich v Bama.... No contest. Hoke is doing wonderful job, but they dont match versus the elite yet

  • Tennessee, Clemson, Alabama

Tenn - I dont think Sal is going to let NC State put up the numbers that NC State will need to win
Clemson - this one is 50/50 imo, but this could be a breakout game for Auburn on Defense, still dont think Fraizer is ready to throw yet.
Alabama - Will be close for the first half, then our offense gets out the jitters. 37-14

Our DL is fine, we don't expect to win but it should be a great game, not a blowout.

By fine he means replacing 3 of 4 starters and the 4th, the only returning starter, is switching to a new position.. then yes.. UM's DL is fine

    copemoney0

  • Tennessee- though NCSU and Glennon could make it interesting

Clemson- why the love for Auburn? Gus made that team and going from spread to pro-style isn't going to be easy transition (hello Florida), esp. with no proven QB

Bama- Too much strength in Bama's lines for UM to contend, though I do think Denard makes couple plays with his legs

  • All 3 SEC teams win by 10+

  • UT - I'll eat crow if necessary later, but UT is going to be a LOT better than they were last year as long as they're healthy. I hate them with a passion, but this is my honest opinion. I don't know much about NCState, so I can't give an overly honest opinion about this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a good game.

AU - Their D will only be marginally better than last season against physical teams, but finesse teams they'll do much better against because the AU weakness is linebacker (they're not built for physical offensive attacks). Their O will be marginally better than last year, but that's like pulling an F up to a D-. Clemson's D should give the AU offense a chance to score some on the ground, and without Watkins, not sure they'll be able to answer often enough. This one will go to the wire, and should be very entertaining.

UA - Offensive/Defensive line discrepancy will be obvious from the first series, and it will get worse with every possession. Bama D will force DRob to go east and west when he scrambles, and even if Fitz plays, he'll get abused by Bama's linebackers. I do think Michigan will move the ball a little early, but not much and not for long. Borges is a very good coordinator and will probably have 5-10 scripted plays that steer clear of any of last year's tendencies for the first few drives. Close in the early 3rd, not close in middle 4th.

If you do not want to see a blow out then you should turn the channel at half time.

So your Coaches will be playing DL now? It does take proper technique but it takes much more than that to stop Bama's run game. This isn't a run of the mill O-line your team will be facing. This is (in many analysts opinion) the best O-line in the country. If your boys are getting blown off the line, it will be a very long day for Michigan. 5 and 6 yard runs in the 1st quarter turn into 20 and 30 yard runs in the 3rd and 4th. The Bama D will be big, fast, and technically sound. I really don't think you guys understand what you're in for yet. I like Hoke and think your program is headed in the right direction but this one could get ugly. Any Michigan fan that doesn't think that's a possibility is dreaming.

A "possibility?" Fine. But, you also have to admit it is a possibility that Michigan wins. Neither of those things is likely though.

The Bama OL might be the best in the country. They are good, but they are still an OL and they still have weaknesses. Do you think bama is getting 5 yards a carry or more on each carry all season against every team. Michigan's DL will be as "technically sound" as any other Bama faces, so it is unlikely they look like the Middle Tenn State line that you seem to be describing.
