West Virginia vs Alabama in 2014?

  • This according to someone who attended Crimson Caravan tonight. Said Coach Saban said the news should come out pretty soon. I would love to see that matchup. I'm guessing it'd be played in the Georgia Dome. What do you all think about this potential matchup?

So they would be the Chickfila kickoff opener?

  • Saban is a West Virginia boy and still has a home up there. One game deal in the Georgia Dome? Sounds like fun.

  • Love CNS as he will play anybody. Bama definitely ain't skarred to open the season against top 10 teams.

    Clemson- 2008
    Virginia Tech- 2009
    Michigan- 2012
    Virginia Tech- 2013
    West Virginia- 2014

Kevin Durant is moving up in my favorite All-Time Athletes list. Mama raised him right.

Lulz, all those teams were the smart choice who never really had a chance at challenging you imo

VT = doesn't have the horses in the trenches to compete with a Bama
Clemson = that was a joke right ?
Michigan = meh, still rebuilding under Hoke.... you are playing them at a good time for you and not for them, Michigan doesn't match up with Bama at all
WVU = another team like VT who just doesn't have the horses up front

Sorry, but play anybody ? not quite, these were all smart games to pick cause the chances of Bama losing were slim to none

  • Let's be honest, Nova. You could say that about any team. That's how good we are. We can only play the teams who are man enough to step up and play us. It's not really our fault if we're that much better than everyone else. Plus we scheduled the Clemson and VT games when we were still not any good.

Clemson was a favorite going into that game (we were 7-6 the previous year)
Virginia Tech went 10-3 that year and finished in the top 10 in the country
Michigan is coming off a BCS appearance and win
Who's to say how good VT or WVU will be in these future years.

Regardless, this is a good schedule of games. Very good, in fact.

True, Im not saying these are pussy matchups or that you are running from anybody else

But lets be serious, that isn't a murderers row of teams you are facing, most don't recruit on nearly the same level

Only Clemson does and even they are a huge drop off in overall talent

Michigan just came back to relevance and also isn't ready for the likes of Bama

If true now I see why LSU is playing soft schedule this year. 2012 and 2014 murders row. VA Tech will be replacing QB, won't they?

When ? depends, most think Logan leaves after this season but I think he is in for a rough year and won't be the first rounder everybody thinks right now

Who outside the SEC would be on our level to begin with?

Saban is set on the neutral site game for the most part which takes USC out of the equation as Larry Scott won't allow that and made a rule that any neutral site game be only shown on the PAC12network.

West Virginia is probably the best, and definitely one of the top 2 teams in the Big12 right now. Clemson was in the top 10 when we played them. Can't help that we exposed them. Va Tech is the best program in the ACC. Michigan just had 10 wins, won the Sugar Bowl, and should be top 10-15 to start the season.

I have no idea. I wasn't at the Caravan. Just relaying what the guy that was there said Saban told the crowd. I'm going to assume he's telling an accurate story. It has to be either in Dallas or Georgia. Georgia would make more sense.

WVU just put up 70 on your conference's champion in a BCS bowl game.

VT is and has been the best program in your conference for several years and wins it most years.

Michigan beat that VT team in a BCS bowl game last season.

EDIT: Point being, Alabama is either playing the best your conference has to offer or teams that are better than your entire conference.

Good argument, though. It's hard to find OOC teams that can match up with Alabama right now. We already play the best teams in America in the SEC. The last two OOC teams to beat Alabama were Utah and Louisiana-Monroe. As long as we stay away from them, we should be ok.

  • I think Alabama would roll through WVU like a hot knife through butter. The best match ups for this one would be in the stands (among the fans).

The only bowl game I've been to so far. It was fun to say the least.
