What do I do???

Seriously. Poodles are little buttholes. Always snapping at someone or something. Lab and golden retriever being #1 and #2 sound about right.

So you've met every poodle in the history of the world then. Since they are always snapping and all. And poodles aren't little. Standard poodles are, IIRC, bigger than a lab or golden.

    Why did it bite her?

Not really sure. I was in the kitchen getting something and next thing I know I hear my daughter screaming horribly. I go in the living room and she is holding her cheek, and all i see is blood. I assume she was probably messing with the dog while she was chewing her bone or something along those lines.

  • Feel sorry for your daughter.

I don't understand why people surround their children with such trashy animals.

Did she know not to bother a dog when it is eating (or have something in its mouth) or sleeping? I'm not saying this was something she brought on herself, or wasn't the dog's fault. It's just really important to teach children the proper way to treat/act around dogs. They may be a loved family member, but they're still animals.

Please tell me this is sarcasm, because I've never seen a black guy holding his kids hand and holding a leash to a Pit bull at the same time.

Yeah it is something we tried to warn her and teach her about. She was very good at not doing it. The dog has never even snipped or growled at any of my children, which is why I was in such shock about it.

Animals that are going to snap or have aggression in them shouldn't be positioned around children, period. A human or child for that matter should be able to go up to an animal and pet it while they're eating. If you can't do that without them getting agitated, they sure as hell don't need to be around children.

  • Weimaraners are great dogs. Very smart and docile around kids.

They barely shed and are easy to take care of. I have two and mine let kids climb all over them.

My weim is great around kids he knows, but he's actually one of the most aggressive dogs I've owned towards strangers, including kids.

However, this is only towards strangers who come to our house, not in public, so I like it. He actually bit a kid in the ass who was wandering around in my yard.

Mine bark like hell until I answer the door then they want to lick whoever is there. My buddy got one because he loved my dogs so much. It growled at me one time so I guess I'm just projecting my dogs onto the breed.

Mines the exact same way. I should have clarified. The strangers thing applies to when he is outside and someone wanders up. If someone is let in by me or the woman he just turns in to a licking machine and I've never seen even a hint of aggression. And like I said, I like the aggression towards uninvited strangers. He's also super good with other dogs.

And on while on the subject of weims... He's a great dog and its a fantastic breed. Loyal, loving, unique looking and a very handsome breed. He's got a TON of energy but when exercised properly is very well behaved which is how it seems most of them are. He's also the smartest dog I've ever had. Weimsraners are great dogs and I'll be a lifelong owner.

  • always had the best luck with a mixed breed smaller dog. they always just wanted to be loved, with that said I had a golden that just loved kids and people in general. Kind of dog that reminds you of the doctor doolittle dog that just wants you to throw the ball. Labs were hit or miss from family perspective. But i think that's all dogs they all are products of their surroundings. Maybe your situation was just a freak accident.

Her and my nine year old son said that all she was doing was watching tv and all of the sudden the dog jumped off of the couch and bit her. He said she wasnt anywhere near her,and none of us have ever been agressive with her.

Never had any problems with her before, she was a great dog.

  • No matter what type of dog you get I would suggest looking into the two week shutdown. I didn't do it with my latest dog though I kind of wish I had and I still might. It is supposed to help alot with adjustment and behavior for new dogs. As scary as the experience might have been, sounds like what happened was actually kind of minor and natural for the dog. Your kid, understandably, wasn't able to pick up on cues and the dog was probably acting in a way that was natural for her. Unfortunate for everyone that this happened.
