The dude was always POP sounding to begin with.
Nonetheless, "hip hop" and "rap" these days are all pretty terrible. Blame Atlanta for butchering the entire genre.

To blame a city doesn't make sense.
It's the executive music tycoons that control the industry that have killed it. Especially the rap / hip hop game.
Rock is making a run at being real again because of pandora and spotify but rap is worse than ever. If you follow Lupe Fiascos career you'll know what I'm talking about

Most underground rappers are great. And some old-timers who still spit every now and then are good.
Anything on the radio is pretty awful, regardless of genre imo.

he has definitely changed. From songs like named above to this today. There is a clear difference. He is much more pop now. This video is his first single off his next album.
