What happened to neighborhood kids cutting grass

That is because the previous generation were horrible parents.

lol. Nah, it is because most of the people now a days are LAZY. Do not want to take time to work.

I don't think that my dad is a bad parent, and he had a dump truck drop an entire mound of alabama clay in our yard and told me to chovel it around the front yard and then spread it with a rake. That taught me some good values.

People are extremely lazy now a days....a decline in the good moral teachings that hard work brings.

My grandfather said the same thing to my dad all the time when I was younger. It's all relative IMO.

To an extent, it gets a little worse with each generation. There is no doubt taht America is more out of shape now than it has been.

  • Some people take their lawns really f'ing serious. If you care that much about it what do you think they'd prefer: a professional lawn care service or some pimply 14 year old?

I guess they didn't know what take initiative was. Just keep pushing it off on someone else.

Don't blame the younger generation for the failures of the older generation.

If the older generation didn't suck censored as parents, maybe there wouldn't be as many lazy kids.

  • Laziness is no one elses responsibility but yourself. If I wanted to know how to do something I asked around until i found out.

I didnt know being fat made you lazy. That's quite the assumption.

I find it quite interesting that even light of that, the states that could be considered the most "moral" weren't the "laziest".

  • I think some of it might have to do with the fact that kids are stretched so thin in the summer these days. When I was a kid, summer vacation was really that: a vacation. Now there are camps and clubs and God knows what else they participate in. Also, in my neighborhood, every house on the street has a lawn service that comes once and week and mows everyone's lawn. There's no opportunity for a kid to do it, even if they wanted to.

But yeah, kids are probably lazier too.

So its the older generations fault the younger generation is too lazy to go out and do things? Have you ever thought that it could be the younger generations fault for not taking responsibility themselves???? So what if your parent doesn't teach you everything, go and ask how to do it!

In what way does being obese not correlate(Sp?) to being lazy?

You are too lazy to watch what you eat.
to lazy to go and find better food.
    To lazy to exercise/

I am not pinning laziness on one area of the country, it is absolutely obvious through that chart people are more lazy now.

  • Not sure why not having to mow the lawn means someone is lazy or less responsible. Maybe their parents find it more productive and important that their kids are studying, participatin in sports, gaining social skills or some other activity during that time. There are a lot of assumptions going on ITT.

I'd also like to know how many kids who weren't in a well-off situation had their parents pay for lawn service.

Has way more to do with what we eat than activity levels. Happens to be the focus of my doctoral dissertation. I think kids are lazy as crap too, but there is no evidence to suggest on a macro level that it is any different than it has ever been. Shoot, Eisenhower thought kids were so lazy 60+yrs ago that he made increasing activity levels in kids one of the primary focuses of his entire presidency.

    Quite frankly, yes.

How would the younger generation know how to take responsibility their selves when their parents refused to teach their proper values?

    Do you have any children?

Yeah it's realllllllly bad these days. I work in a pediatrician's office, and the things parents let their children get away with are atrocious. I want to spank their kids FOR them.

What if someone didn't have time to exercise because they were working 16 hours a day?
Was more affordable to eat crap than the healthier food that is way more expensive?

You can't correlate something that isn't measurable (laziness) with something that is measurable (obesity).

You teach them yourself through trial and error and living a life probably.

    No, I am 20.

After seeing that, i can now safely say that we are truly doomed, NO RESPONSIBILITY is taken by the modern generation. Just because someone crapped in your hand doesn't mean you have to hold it.

I HATE excuses. You can ALWAYS make time for something. You might only have 4 or 5 hours of sleep, but you can help what you take into your body.

Also, name me what percentage of the population works 16 hours a day.

No doubt, I think eating is the largest part of it. However, it isn't the persons fault who is taking in the food, it is the persons parents. According to some.

If you have no children, then you have no idea what it is like.

My daughter is ten months old and already learning from me (as a PARENT) how to act and behave.

If I don't teach her, how is the world is she suppose to learn anything? Magic 8 ball?

The older generation tried to take shortcuts in their parenting, and now that they have screwed-up children, they want to put the blame on everyone but their selves. That is NOT taking responsibility for their actions, and it is showing in their children.

You made a thread about Food, Inc. the other day. They are not excuses but what some people have to live with every day.

Situations are different for different people. You can't go making vast assumptions of other situations based on your own.

If someone is poor and has to work two jobs to make a living and can only afford censored food and they are obese because it,are you really going to call them lazy because they dont go work out and instead get more sleep?
