Like I said before, USC's dominance will not last with how well FSU has been lately. Remember yall used to dominate everyone in track as well. Soon the only thing people at USC film will be happy about is American Dad(great show btw). All jokes aside I do agree USC film school does hold a monopoly right now but its only because you got lucky enough to land Spielberg.

You are aware that Spielberg is not an alumnus, right? He was turned down three times for admission...yet he sits on the BOT and established his prized Shoah Foundation at USC.

The USC film school was founded by Douglas Fairbanks and Hollywood, and the reason I pulled the quote about Hollywood closing down if all our alums called in sick, is because USC dominates the industry in cinematography and film production. You know..the creative people. Capiche?

George Lucas, Ron Howard, John Singleton, Robert Zemekis, John Carpenter are just a few of the directors who attended USC.

and like I said it was a joke. Of course I know about Lucas but didn't know all of the names you stated.

Out of curiosity, how exactly do you judge "how well" a film school is doing if not by the films created by its alumni? How exactly has FSU been "doing well"? What big names in the film industry are FSU alum or up-and-comers? It is an honest question, I have no clue, but it sounds like a very bold claim.

This is still going on??? Let's end it all!! If not for USC...no movies, TV, the entire entertainment industry!

As Steven Spielberg said in the opening ceremony for the new USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex, if every Trojan called in sick one day in Hollywood, the entire industry would have to shut down for the day.

All snickering aside...what major, billion dollar industry would shut down if your alums walked off? panic

Those were but a few...plus, our cinema school was founded by Douglas Fairbanks, D. W. Griffith, William C. DeMille, Ernst Lubitsch, Irving Thalberg, and Darryl Zanuck.

This promotional video highlights the film school...entire half of the video dedicated to academics.

Collegiate competitions between Film schools. FSU is in the top 3 film schools in the country already with NYU and USC being the names that most people would say are the traditional powers. FSU has not matched the success of USC but its been the winner of the CocaCola contest twice USC(3) is UCLA(2) and NYU(2) are the other schools that have been this successful. Of course like I said USC is still the power in this area. They also received more awards last year than any other school in the nation at the Collegiate Televion Awards and has the record for winning the most student emmys in one year at 5 in 2004.

I will say this slowly...because I thought people would catch this.....due to the large and overwhelming number of USC alumni in the creative and production part of the movie industry, if every Trojan called in sick...the industry would have to close down in Hollywood.

I was attempting to be a bit outrageous and a little tongue in cheek...using a well known fact in the industry....the number of USC alumni in the creative sector of the industry.

Till someone steps up and challenges this, it's nothing but BS. Form your own Hollywoods then, and we'll see. Till then, it's a multi billion dollar industry that people across the country have been lapping up for almost a hundred years.

so, in essence, USC ruined the film industry.

I guess you missed the part where the founding fathers of Hollywood were by in-large USC alums. So yes, what she is saying is that you can blame USC for how the film industry was when it started, how it has been the last century, and what it is today.

I'm sure they mean the executives. Most of the actors and many of the directors back then didn't go to college at all.

well, see, none of the founders of MGM did, nor Fox... hell, all the founding fathers of the movie business were Jewish immigrants.

but they all immigrated to USC film school?

Buffett attended community college, S Miss St, Ole Miss, and finally got a degree in journalism from Auburn.

That pretty much sums it up.

That's why they established the oldest and largest film school in the world at USC, and TAUGHT here (Douglas Fairbanks, Cecil B. Demille, Alfred Hitchcock was just a few of many).

They realized they needed to found a school in 1929, and they did so with the academy of motion picture arts and sciences.

The current state of film is abysmal from a creative standpoint. It's all about the money though in the film industry and every film school around teaches how to make additional $$ off of any good idea. Sequels mostly blow these days and ticket sales revenue represents that which is why I think indie films have found success at some level. But here's the point....because of location, location, location and money, and influence, USC Film School and subordinate programs still wield massive influence in the film industry. Here's a look at the Board of Councilors. I'm sure some of the names look familiar, even to you barny.
