How does a "too many white guys on this board" comment on a thread about music tastes not have anything to do with white people's taste in music? It's obvious you are commenting on people's taste in music in correlation to being white in your comment, so what say you? Get your head out of your own ass.

Folk all the way to extreme metal and hardcore basically. I guess many of those bands are "progressive" in the genre sense.
My current music list:
Ben Harper, City and Colour, Esperanza Spalding, Fleet Foxes, Funkadelic, Gift of Gab, Isis, Jello Biafra & The Melvins, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Bonamassa, John Frusciante, King Crimson, La Fin du Monde, The Mars Volta, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Miles Davis, Mos Def, Nomeansno, Refused, Rush, Sepultura, Slayer, Tool, The Tragically Hip, Warpaint.
Although I usually only listen to a few different bands at a time, and listen to albums rather than random shuffling.
This girl can both sing and hammer away on the upright bass, Esperanza Spalding...

Love her. I have a friend who's son was at Berklee with her, also a Bass player of some renown and she just blew the doors off the school.
He said it was ridiculous how good she is.
Tai Wilkenfeld, the young Aussie woman who plays bass for Jeff Beck is the Blues/Rock equivelant.
Unbelievable how good they both are.
If you saw Jeff Beck playing on that HBO Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert at Madison Square Garden that is her thumping in the background. I don't think she is even 25 yet and was playing with Herbie Hancock when she was 20

Good stuff man. In regards to the age thing I always find it weird to think about when Hendrix started "the trio": Are You Experience, Axis, and Electric Ladyland he was only 23 and still just a kid in some ways.
Spalding is also a feather in the cap for Portland, Oregon who's probably more known for producing grunge, punk, and electronic music (not that there is anything wrong with those genres obviously) than world-renown jazz prodigies. Although I think Spalding left for Berklee when she was 16 she got her start in Portland jazz clubs I believe.
