Scooter calling anyone a homer makes me laugh. He still thinks Spencer Ware is a decent back even after averaging less than 4 yards a carry last year.

Not saying about the OP, because I was around when it was great and not so great and I just want to stay in this dreamworld, but only 3 of his 11 coaches have been with him more than 4 years.

That's impressive. Pete lasted a few cycles of new staff until the coaching attrition caught up to him. Maybe Saban can do better, but its really difficult.

It worries me that our staff got poached by the NFL after last year, but I think Lane made some solid hires.

I dont see a problem with it. Lay off bro. Slow season.

Besides something like this getting posted once a week?

It's annoying. We're a great program right now and we know it but I don't get the point of rubbing it in other programs faces.

I wouldn't worry about Lane's hires. The longer a coach has been around, the more resources he has to branch out and make good coaching decisions. Lane may not be as experienced but he has a great resource on his staff that knows a lot of coaches that know a lot of coaches.

I like to find guys that fit the mold as well. The bigtime hires don't work out that often.

Charlie at UF. Malzhan had a very subpar year this year. Kragthorpe at LSU (I know he had the health issues as well). Norm Chow has been mediocre everywhere since he left USC.

Completely agree. Pete hired a bunch of yes men after his guys left for the NFL, and it didn't work out, especially offensively. Not saying that will be the thing to bring Saban down, just that it is one of many traps that can cause some mediocrity.

On a side note, I really believe Norm will turn Hawaii around. I am in the weightroom with those guys every morning and has them working twice as hard as they've ever worked.

He is only average when he can't oversign? Really! when could he not over sign? And better than that, when was he average?

Saban was average or below average with both Michigan State and the Dolphins. You know, the two places in his career where he was unable to oversign.

He actually significantly improved the dolphins defense and probably would still be there is he would have gotten Drew B like he wanted. But you know facts and whatever

I think you guys should go ahead and claim at least 1 Super Bowl based on these facts. Just put it in the pile with the others.

    Dolphins post Saban 32-48 (40%) (5 years)

His 2nd year with the Dolphins, Miami had a top 5 defense but no QB.

Doesn't matter though, Saban absolutely dominates college football and has no equal. He is the best college coach in the last 30 years. Easily.

Fvck no. I think when Urban was at his best, he's right there with Saban though. I don't think you can say he's better though. Right now, Saban>Meyer though.

It will be interesting to see how saban does without oversigning....he was really upset when they told him he couldn't do it anymore. CartierGator is 100% correct Urban never oversigned and after some troubled players they were under the scholarship limit, had he been able to oversign like saban did he would've never ran into trouble. Also Les has oversigned as well. So it's too hard to tell there is no way bama wins 3 championships in the next 5-6 yrs I would love to take that bet. Also Pete Carrol was a better coach than saban IMO

Dolphins were complete garbage with saban thats why he bailed. He couldn't take getting his head beat in. Also saban wanted Culpepper over Brees if that tells you something.

I want to see a loaded Kiffin team at SC play Bama. Kiffin coached Saban under the bus at UT with very average talent, and almost pulled it off. Kiffin is a top 3 game day coach in the Nation right now IMO. Would love to see it happen.

Every once in a while after perusing this board I see a post that is just so idiotic that I can't help but respond. You're the lucky winner this week.

Please explain how Kiffin coached Saban under the bus?

It's my understanding that Kiffin runs his teams' offense, while Saban runs his teams' defense. Both give a lot of freedom to their coordinators on the other side of the ball. I'm sure you'll agree with that statement.

They met one time on the field. Kiffin's O had put a total of 3 points on the board over the first 3.9 quarters until Mark Ingram lost the only fumble of his career on a fluke play and allowed UT to scored a TD on a short field with 1 minute left in the game.

From there, UT recovered an onsides kick, completed what amounted to a Eli Manning to David Tyree pass miracle pass in traffic to get into long FG range, where Kiffin shut down his O and put the game into the hands of his kicker for a 40+ yarder to win it... the same kicker who was well under 50% on the season from 40+.

If any of the above is incorrect, please correct me.

As of today, Nick Saban's defense yielded the 2nd lowest point total of Lane Kiffin's head coaching career.

Methinks that has more to do with the places themselves than the coach.

yep, and the UT onside kick should have been flagged. UT hit a bama player before the ball had gone 10 yards, which is illegal.
