What would it take?

  • I have been reading on this board how very little respect ND is getting from diehard fans across the country. I sort of understand as they were barely ranked or unbanked to start the season.

So the question is if Notre Dame beats USC next week and makes it into the NC game, what will it take for the Irish to earn that national respect again? Will it take a win, a great game, the defense to show it really is elite? Just wondering.

Build a time machine, go back 25 years, tell your fans just to be quiet, unmake Rudy, tell captain front butt not to talk about what an offensive genius he is, and tell your team to practice inside during gale force winds. That would be a good start.

Hell even I'll agree about unmaking Rudy

Why? That was one of the most BRILLIANT recruting tools ever. Wish MSU would have thought of it.

  • If Barkley doesn't play, you won't get too much respect for beating USC. I mean, they are a 4 loss team with Barkley so I think it is safe to say that they simply aren't nearly as good as people assumed they would be.

ND surprised a lot of people when they beat OU but the Sooners have dropped games they shouldn't in recent years(see Texas Tech last year). The Stanford win looks real good right now. The problem is this...

    3 point win over Purdue(4-7)
    3 point win over BYU(6-5)
    3 OT win over Pitt(4-6)
    15 point win over BC(2-9)

You guys seem to play to the level of your competition. I thin people really wanted to watch ND go against Barkley and those 2 WRs but it looks like that won't happen now. You will have a chance to earn the respect in the BCS title game if you guys get there though.

  • Personally, for me it is not a lack of respect for Notre Dame. It's the reality of how good Notre Dame is. I look at games against Purdue, Michigan, BYU, and Pitt and wonder why those are even close games. My answer: because ND just isn't that talented.

I've seen Michigan play in person and the talent, type of player, and athleticism isn't there and then I saw them shut down Notre Dame and move the ball on the ground against them.

I see it as reality and not disrespect. I would love to play Notre Dame for the respect of the tradition.

I understand about not getting too far ahead, ND has to focus to win the game ahead of it. That is why I said If ND wins.

Cause the SEC has been so impressive in the games they've played recently.

I mean Florida had that nice comeback against Louisiana-Lafeyette at home, and South Carolina was able to pull away from Wofford after being tied in the 4th. And we'll forget about Georgia's two close games against Kentucky and Tennessee who are both awful. Even LSU was trailing in the 4th at home to a 5-6 Ole Miss team.

It's hard to stay undefeated no matter who you are playing. ND has played a team from a BCS conference in every week except for Navy. They haven't brought their A game every week, but they've found a way to win every week against a tough schedule according to SOS metrics.

When you win the past 6 NC's, it's hard to argue.

Reads much like Notre Dame's entire season, IMO.

I think hes being sarcastic... take a look around Buckeye17, the SEC is the premier conference in the land and its not even close. You are reading too much into Florida barely beating ULL. The SEC has proven time and time again to have the best teams, by way of winning the last 6 BCS NCs and having 4-6 teams consistently ranked in the top 10-15. Now be gone and good luck against Purdue or Northwestern or whatever Big10 patsy you have coming up.

I didn't know this thread had anything to do with OSU. I think it's nice that they're undefeated, but I don't at all think OSU is a top team in CFB this year.

Every year is different. I just don't think the SEC is as good as they have been in past years. The offenses seem to be rather inept this year outside of A&M and Bama.

I just don't think ND should be disrespected just cause they've played some close games, when SEC teams who are respected have played close games against bad teams as well.
