What's The Biggest College Football Rivalry?

  • Clearly, all of us are a little biased. To Ohio State and UM fans, it's obviously The Game. For Bama and Auburn fans, it's easily the Iron Bowl. Many fans of other teams will argue that it's their biggest rivalry that tops the list. So I'm throwing this out there just to see what people think. If you weren't being biased, which rivalry would you think is the biggest in college football?

I just don't get why UM/OSU fans like each other so much. I find it strange.

I've always liked the FSU/UF rivalry the best. Not sure if it's the biggest but it has been the most entertaining over the last 20 years or so, especially in the 90's.

  • Most Hatred? Iron Bowl. I've been to ann arbor a couple of times and have never had the urge to kill any vegetation.

Overall? Ohio State vs. michigan. Sorry if my bias is showing but the Notre Dame vs USC game doesn't even register for me.

It's an earned mutual respect mixed with a healthy dose of disdain.

I like it best cause there is always fighting during the games, and back then it was almost a shoe in they would meet at midfield to throw some bows

But then the NCAA got all chomos and stopped allowing that

Yeah, kind of one of those things where both need to be good. Lacks the hatred though and the continuity into other sports. Great football rivalry though. Lots of entertaining games from the 80's and 90's.

Figured there'd be more Gator/Nole fans jumping in this thread since they constantly bag on each other.

  • My favorite rivalry is Florida-FSU. As a child of the '90's, it didn't get any better than that.

That was a fun one to watch in the 90's. Still is imo. I think the Noles go ham in this one though.
UF just can't score, but has a helluva D. But so do the Noles, with a way better offense. Should be fun.

And the games recently have been passion filled, they just haven't meant much nationally so nobody paid attention

Well part of the reason the ND/U$C game may not register is due to the fact that we forgot how to play football for the past 20years. Before our football ineptitude the ND/SC game was almost an annual pseudo NC game where the team that won the game had a great shot at winning the Natty. This was pre 1980’s U$C was as bad as in the 80’s as we were during the late 90’s/2000’s. This rivalry has had a few bright spots but they have been few and far between.

I will admit I do watch the scUM/tOSU game when it’s on and both team are at least decent, most of the time I pull for tOSU due to my lack of tolerance for Meet Chicken. If I had to choose and being completely unbiased I probably would go with “The Game” as the top rivalry game as it stands now.

Oh and in case you didn’t know...Ann Arbor is a Whore.

Umm, Miami-FSU was the must see game from late 80's early 90's.. Obviously ND-SC is the biggest national rival.. Who really cares about what happens in Bama? Always liked UM-OSU rivalry as well..

  • Personally, I have not watched the Ohio State vs Michigan game since I was very young. That's not meant to be a flame, it's just the truth; I just don't really care anymore. The answer is Army vs Navy or Bama vs Auburn IMO. Army vs Navy is just a different kind of game. It's pretty much all either team really care about. The Bama/AU game is the most heated and has meant more on a national scale. It has had a national impact on who is going to the NC the last 5 years. I mean, that's a pretty easy answer IYAM. Maybe 20 years ago it was different. But for the better part of a decade, it's obvious.

2008- Bama- We beat AU to go undefeated in the regular season, they fire their coach. We play UF in the SECC for basically the national championship.

2009- Bama- We beat Auburn on a 4th quarter drive to go undefeated in the regular season again. We beat UF this time in the SECC, and go on to go undefeated and win the NC

2010- AU- They come back and beat a 10 win Bama team to remain undefeated in the regular season. They win the SECC and beat Oregon to win the NC.

2011- Bama- We beat AU to remain at one loss so we can stay the top one-loss team in the country and play in a rematch with LSU in the NC.

2012- Bama (most likely)- If we win this year, we finish the regular season with one loss and play UGA in the SECC to play for the NC, they fire their coach. If we lose, A&M or LSU goes

I mean, that's pretty hard to argue IMO. I would bet next year would be very similar too.
