What's The Biggest College Football Rivalry?

  • Sure sign you're a douche: bringing graduation rates to a football argument. Any college fb fan who wouldn't trade a 60% grad rate for a crystal trophy needs to be boat oar'd in the face.

Bama's grad rate was 75%, considered very good by national standards.

Bama-Auburn is easily the best rivalry in football FOR THE FANS, but right now Bama-LSU is the best rivalry in college sports.

Now go back and count how many times one of those teams (tOSU or UM) had it's perfect season ruined and was kept from the national championship game because its only loss was to its archrival during the final week of the regular season. That's why it's the biggest rivalry in college football.

That's just an excuse everyone knows OSU and Michigan go to Big time bowl games to die, see 06 you guys were both undefeated headed against each other and both got your doors blown off in your bowl games.

The same can be said for Texas/OU. The only difference is that the winning team often goes on to win a MNC. Two top teams in the same year makes for a better rivalry. That is why every national poll puts Texas/OU ahead of Michigan/Ohio St.

Show me these actual "national polls" (from reputable sources) that says Texas/OU > Ohio State/UM. And note that the Dallas Observer and Bleacher Report doesn't count.
I've got a couple and they're reknowned sports sources.

  • Bottom line is this: Auburn-Alabama fans don't care about Michigan-Ohio State, Michigan-Ohio State fans don't care about Texas-OU, Texas-OU fans don't care about USC-ND, etc, etc, bc rivalries typically only matter to the two teams involved. I don't give a rat's fat ass about the Celtics-Lakers or Yankees-Red Sox. I'm not a fan of either team.

Who cares what polls say UM has 1/2 NC in 50 years and OSU has 1 NC in 40 years... that pretty much says its all...

No flame but OSU and UM have a combined 1 1/2 titles in 40 years don't understand how that can be a bigger rivalry on a national scene than Auburn vs. Alabama or FSU vs. UF. I understand locally it's the biggest rivalry but nationally it doesn't have the appeal it once did..

I believe 10 perfect seasons have been ruined in the game total

Okay...and that'll be Auburn's only national title for quite a while. Every year besides that has been Bama destroying a mediocre Auburn team. And before Saban, it was Auburn destroying terrible Bama teams.

I have a counter statement Aub vs. Alabama met in the past 3 years the winner of that game also won the NC and he could also happen for the 4th year in the row..

What that shows is the better teams wins.

In a rivalry the better team doesn't always win. There are historic upsets and dream seasons are ruined.

That's a big part of what makes a rivalry great.

IF Michigan was Alabamas rival they wouldn't beat Bama either so your tryin to tell me that if Bama and Michigan were the biggest rivals the score of that Alabama and Michigan would be different?

You guys said that the reason why your team hasn't won a NC game is bc of the rivalry, therefore using that same logic If Alabama was Michigans biggest rival the score of this year's game would be different...

I don't know about that. We weren't world beaters every year, but during our worst two decades we still managed a lot and a NC each one.

    90's:

    1991: 11-1
1992- 13-0 National Champions, SEC champions, SEC West Champs
1994- 12-1 Undefeated regular Season; SEC West Champs
    1996- 10-3 SEC West Champs
    1999- 10-3 SEC West Champs

    5- 10 wins seasons
    1- undefeated regular season
    1- NC
    1- SECC
    4- SEC West Championships

2000's (worst decade in Bama History):

2002- 10-3 (Would have won the SEC but were ineligible)
    2005- 10-2
2008- 12-2 SEC East Champs, Undefeated Regular Season, Heisman
2009- 14-0 SEC Champions, SEC East Champs, National Champions, Undefeated Regular Season
    2010- 10-3

    5- 10 win seasons
    2- undefeated regular seasons
    1- NC
    1- SECC
    3- 3 or 4 SEC West Championships
    1- Heisman

    2010's:

2011- 12-1 SEC West Champs, National Champions
    2012- TBD

Two years of it being an important game on the schedule doesn't make it rivalry...rivalries are border wars or in-state wars that have historical meaning.
