When did ECU get a site?

  • Face Stabber said...

Who's ECU's coach since Holtz left?

Coach Ruffin Mcneill came home from Texas Tech. After Leach was canned...he was the interim HC when TT won in a bowl game over Michigan State 2 years ago.
Ruff went to ECU and played corner when Coach Pat Dye was there.

I was surprised to see ECU get a site before some BCS schools

Because unlike the ESPN talking heads that have brainwashed college sports try to tell you ECU has a presence and a die hard fan base.

yeah you're right. I don't know why i put 70K. We just expanded a couple years ago and it can hold over 50K now.

Umm IT HOLDS 50K now that we have the Boneyard Endzone expansion in place, Before we were like 45 I think.

Plans have been approved to make it 60 with a press box like BG said.

    43,000

We are able to go a little passed 50,000 because of the Murphy Center's deck where high rollers can watch, but since it's not a part of the stadium and there is no real "seats" there it's not included in the official number, only counted in the tickets sold. Our high mark is 50,610.

We averaged 50,012 last as compared to our ACC foes to the west UNC 56,000 and NCSU 54,000. And yet, ESPN says we have no market.bs_sign, it's not like we sent 34,000 to the 1992 bowl or 17,600 to the 2010 Military Bowl or anything, oh wait..................we DID. Sorry, BCSPN really pisses me off. Carry on................................

  • Any talk of putting in a pirate ship like Tampa Bay?

    hines011

  • I was answering the question about the size of the stadium BEFORE the last expansion.

Okay, I break it down for everyone.

DFS opened as Ficklen Stadium in 1963 and held 20,000

1978, new light and all four corner expanded the Fick then held 35,000

1998-1999 the upper deck and club levels were added taking on Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium to 43,000

2010 the last expansion, east endzone filled in with the 7,000 seat "The Boneyard" taking DFS to an even 50,000. Also, an new state of the art HD video board was put in it is 36 by 84 feet.

No, we used to have a mock front of a Pirate ship the team would enter threw, but with the last expansion we added a ribbon board to the Murphy Center and the new fire marshall said no to using the wooden ship, saying it was a fire risk to have that close to the ribbon board. We would like some type of ship (part of) for the team's enterance again, but right now nothing in the works.

    Here is the old "ship"

When is the expansion supposed to be finished? Any chance it is done by the time we play you guys up there (2015 I think)?

We have already expanded to 50K.... this season will be the 3rd at that capacity. The 60+ stuff will be a while. Although planning for it has already begun.

Ahhh. Thanks for the info. Nevertheless, I look forward to making the trip up to Dowdy Ficklen in 2015

better yet when will the B12 have more than Texas & Oklahoma ?
i realize schools have left their Conference over the last few years faster than (swagsters) new signees exit at Auburn but ....

maybe that is why they added WVU, they already had a site.

    Best season?

Biggest Rival NC State(though they would say different) Series stands at ECU 11 NCSU 16 (that's with only 3 games in Greenville, 3 neutral site games 2 at BOA stadium in Charlotte and the 1992 Peach Bowl, the rest at Carter Finley Stadium).

Biggest Win.....debatable amoung ECU fans, but here is the short list #12 Maimi 1996, a top 10 Miami 1999, a top 10 WVU in 2008, #24 NC Sate 1992 Peach Bowl (assured ECU's best finish and season 11-1 and 9th in the final polls for the 1991-92 season)

Winningest Coach was Steve Logan, but I'd say the best Coach was Pat Dye who coach for Auburn from 1981-91.

Best Season 1991 11-1 #9 in the nation, wins from that year, South Carolina, NC State(Peach Bowl), Pitt, Syracuse, VT, Southern Miss and others

That 1999 team beat Miami, WVU, South Carolina, NC State, Duke and Texas Tech(bowl game) 6-0 against teams in AQ Confrences. I don't care who are for a non-AQ that's impressive.
