That's me. I can play the hell out of a guitar. I can write music. I can't sing. I consider myself a musician on an Amatuer level but can't sing. Music is art. You really can't define it. If you can make music, with and instrument you're a musician. If you can sing along with that music, your a great musician. If you can write songs, you're a song writer.

I like everything from hank willams Sr to Jason Alden, so I still rocker country music

The bands that I listen to write their own stuff. I think it makes a huge difference. A musician is going to care about a song a lot more if they wrote it themselves.

I like Blake Shelton's music

There is still some good country music coming out. Dierks Bently, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean and some others mentioned but overall country music is changing for us that grew up listening to singers and bands like Alabama, Diamond Rio, Gene Watson, Gary Stewart, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams etc. What I think we are seeing now is what I refer to as retro country music that is intended to draw the interest of the young pop/rap generation.

It takes them longer to blow up than you'd think. I heard Eli Young about 5 years ago I believe and they're now just getting big

Your right, being from Texas started listening to Eli Young about 5 yrs ago also. Seen them in concert many times

Another band I cant stop listening to is Turnpike Troubadors! They are frickin awesome

There you go aussie. Ocms, trampled by turtles, greensky, etc are the way to go but skew towards bluegrass. Devil makes three are my current favorite but are not as country and are closer to avett brothers - who I would call bluegrass early on. . With that said I love eric church and a lot of other country, but Taylor swift is only good to play for my daughter.
