    Yeah...and you lost to Florida at home. So, you're a fvcking idiot for trying to make fun of them. They lost to a Big East team and beat your asses on your home field...so what does that say about you?

    Btw, of your 12 wins I'm impressed by exactly zero of them. There are several, if not many, teams that could have gone 12-2 with that schedule. Hell, FSU also lost to NC State which got dominated by an awful SEC team in Tennessee and an average one in Vanderbilt.

    I've been thinking about this too, especially after the Sugar Bowl last night. SEC defenses are getting torched in bowl games this year relatively speaking. Michigan put up 28 on USCe in the Outback Bowl with a backup QB. In comparison, during the regular season we only put up 14 on Bama, 6 on ND, 12 on MSU, 9 on UNL and 21 on OSU. Hell, we only put up 33 on AF and 31 on NW (in regulation) and their defenses stink. Maybe it's the extra month off to prepare, but I don't remember seeing the same trend in previous years. It's making me wonder about the BCSCG. Before last night, I thought Bama was a lock to win by 3 TDs. I don't think that anymore.

Out of the 32 AQ teams that have played in 4 or more bowl games the last 5 years, only 8 have lower ppg in the bowl games than in the regular season.

    I think the layoff helps the offense a little and gameplanning to go against a defense is easier than gameplanning against an offense, IMO. An offense may change a little of what they do, while a defense isn't going to change that much usually.

    It also probably has something to do with you are playing a better team in the bowl game than you did the average team you faced in the regular season unless you went 6-6 or something like that.

    Here are all the teams that average giving up 5 more points per game or more than they did in the regular season that played in 4 bowl games over the last 5 years:

    Oregon +6.12
    Ohio St +6.29

    UGA's defense isn't that good for one thing. They have trouble stopping the run. Nebraska runs the ball. 4 teams actually ran for more yards against UGA than Nebraska did this season. Them having trouble on defense against a running team was no surprise. Nebraska put up 239, Alabama just put up 350 4 weeks ago.

    Florida has been fickle all year. Their offense was the problem last night as it has been all season. They were lucky all year that they didn't have that many turnovers, but last night, their offense put their defense in awful situations and kept them on the field way too long to be successful.

    Vandy gave up a FG more than they averaged in SEC play while holding NC St to 4 points less than they averaged in ACC play. I don't see anything alarming about that.

    Michigan averaged almost 30 ppg and over 30 ppg in the B1G this season. I think you would also think that the QB situation was the best it had been all season in that game with Gardner. Even with that, Michigan was still held under 50% in completion % and to their 5th lowest rushing performance of the season (less than they had against ND). Without Lattimore, SCar just insn't that great and if you look at their games since the last week in October, you'd see that.

    Idk. We gave up several big passing plays due to broken coverages. That's probably because you are a good passing team (you passed for well over 300 yards in each of your last four games after Lattimore went down) and we were missing our top two CBs (one out with an injury and one suspended for the game). Of course, we did hold you to 85 yards rushing. But we weren't discussing UM's defense or really even USCe's defense. We were discussing why opponents seem to be overachieving against SEC defenses this year in bowl games. I certainly am not criticizing USCe or the SEC. We played hard and lost to a very good USCe team. And the USCe fans generally have been great, among the best and most respectful I've met. I didn't start this thread. I just saw it and was thinking along the same lines as the OP.

    Fair enough. I think some of Michigan and Louisville's success was due to time of possession. Michigan scored most of its points on SC when it had nearly a 3-1 TOP advantage. I think both the UF and SC defenses were a bit gassed most of the game.

    No idea on UGA. I didn't see that game.

    Its notable though that SC recently held Clemson to 25 points below their season average and UF held FSU to 13 below their average. Whatever happened to the SEC defenses seems to be limited to bowl games.

  • you will see the best defense in the country monday night. alabama is number one in most categories. notre dames' defense is not too shabby either. i'm beginning to see why florida fans hate fsu so much. you guys have an inferiority complex that is unbelievable. fla. state would not be happy in any new conference! get over the jealousy. why would the gators ever want you in the same conference that they are in?

  • I think it SC's case, as Jefe pointed out TOP. I don't think its because our defense was so gassed, but our offense scored so much more rapidly than normal. We have been a grind out possessions team(sort of how Michigan was) 3 plays to get 12 yards, rather than the 3 plays to house it. Gave michigan more possessions, therefore more opportunity to score. In addition, Hoke obviously didn't believe he could stop Carolina and therefore went for 4 fourth downs(extending drives three times) and Michigan went 6/6 in scoring opportunities. They didn't leave any points off the board, which is a little bit rare. In the end 350 yards in total offense is hardly a terrible effort
