Where'd your parents go to school?

  • I always find it interesting to see if someone is a lineage fan/student or makes their own way. And how said situation affects their fandom.

My dad went to Maryland, my mom went to George Washington, and I just finished up at Alabama.

My dad missed the draft by like 100 numbers or something. He ended up becoming a doctor and works his ass off and loves what he does. God bless your father for serving our country.

I can't say I have the same patriotic pride as your dad (I thought about Army Corps of Engineers when I was still an engineering major, but alas...) but I managed to hold on to that old-school work ethic of, "I'll get it done, I'll get it done fast, and I'll get it done well." Overdelivering to clients is something I take much pleasure in.

Yeah, my Dad doesn't have Flags hanging everywhere and all Military.. Just a very hard worker and serious.

I've never heard him talk about the War.. Not once.

I told him thank you on Memorial Day and he hardly acknowledged me.

It's amazing how differently veterans deal with it, you know? I have two friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. One was a Marine, the other was in the Army. My Marine friend will talk openly about how he served, my Army friend not so much. I don't think it's so much a commentary on Marines vs. Army as it is on just person to person as far as experiences go. I couldn't imagine to be honest.

I know what you mean bro.. The thing about Vietnam was it was gruesome. Our soldiers were in the jungle and many people got killed by Swords and knives which is a messed up way to see dead bodies or people getting killed.

Also, many feet had to be amputated because of the water.. You had to constantly change socks and keep your feet dry or you were screwed.

Just a really messed up war/nasty war to be in.

My dad would not talk about Vietnam, only to say that he lost alot of good friends. I asked to interview him for a school project that i was doing, he said he would just write a couple pages for me. After a couple days and no story i knew i was going to do alot of research on my own..Something was definately haunting him about the war. To the day he passed, i never was able to get one story out of him.
