Which Football short dynasty was most dominant in the 2000s

  • Miami early '00s
    USC mid '00s
    Alabama late 00s/early '10s

  • I'd say Miami since they had the best actual team, IMO and went undefeated 2 straight regular season and their only loss was in OT in the BCSCG.

    BetterOff

  • I'm going to say Miami too... cuz look how many of those guys not only went to the NFL but had steller careers, you could put all of them on the same team and win a super bowl, maybe even an undefeated season... sure bama and USC has put out NFL talent but none of really turned out like Miami's talent

  • My one big knock on Miami's early '00's dynasty is that they were truly a force with only one QB. USC, Alabama, and even LSU and Florida were national title contenders with multiple QBs, while Miami really only had one field general when they were a title contender. Miami had the best team ('01), but I am not sure it was the best dynasty.

  • Miami shouldn't be on the list.

They slacked off so severely in the that second national title game that a special needs ref was in a position to take it from them in the end.

I do think they would've beaten Oklahoma if they weren't BCS'd that year prior their title.

  • How do you list Bama? It's not like their run is close to over. Major player, aka top 5 every year for the next several years minimum. They are the top dog right now. May not win it every year but will be in it most every year. Surely the envy of any program at the moment

    totally agree with you

  • think what he was saying is that BAMA is not on a short dynasty list as their run is still going on and should be for years to come ...unless i missed it which is entirely possible

  • I agree Bama is the NC can't argue that and that Bama will be near the top for seasons to come but the envy of every team well that's USC. USC is LA, Hollywood, families vacation where we play football. USC is ranked #1 preseason poll with the 2013 recruiting class already considered the best in CFB. Sounds like USC is now everyone's favorite AGAIN. BAMA is a very close 2nd

disagree with you but thats football - Alabama's program is the envy of every team because they win in the toughest conference in college football and have the best college coach in football . they have won a couple of NC lately and are primed to be a factor for years to come . Not a fan at all as i follow UT but just sayin

  • When it comes to the OP I'd say Miami regretfully, those teams were loaded offense and defense sending soon to be HOFers to the NFL, it hurts to say this being a USC faithful.

I think that opinion is very regional based, many respect them...but envy? NO..there is more to life than football, as the identity of a university. Much more..but to have a great university first, plus a grand tradition in CFB, there is no need for envy of anyone.

MIami wins it, I don't think anyone will ever have such a fiercely shining flash of talent concentrated in such a short period. But there is the drug, thug behavior scandals, that never seemed to end...

Say, that's quite a reach you've got there! As I recall, Miami trailed by as many as 10 at one point and needed to get away with defensive holding before the end of regulation to make it to overtime. Let's not forget, OSU's D-line was dominant, the linebackers were flying all over the field, and the safeties were lights out. Miami wasn't going to put a lot of points on that defense.
As for your "bad call", here's plenty of evidence to counter. Enjoy!

  • Miami had the best team in 01 out of any of the 3, but I'd go with USC with the best run, since they had 7 straight years in the BCS and top 5. Miami would be next. Alabama has a chance to pass both, but it is early for them right now as they are in year 4 or 5 depending if you count the year they lost to Florida and Utah to end the season. They also had a 3 loss year sprinkled in which bumps them down a bit. In fact, I'm not sure if I don't take Florida from 06-09 over Alabama from 08-11. UF in 08 beats any of Alabama's teams and they won the SEC both times they won the NC.

  • fair enough but just responding to an earlier post which stated that USC was the envy of every college program and i should have stated that if one program was the envy of every program today it would be Alabama for the reasons i listed

  • Morning USCtrojan1, over/under today before someone insults you for an opinion.

    SaCramentrojan

  • 1-USC
    2-Miami
    3-UF
    4-Bama

Love Alabama but the dynasty will end soon... Every ongoing dynasty thinks i will last but this year I dont see a clear cut Title winner or top 5 final ranking

I think if you take Miami's 3 years in the early 2000's (2000-02),
and you take what Alabama has done the last 4 years (08-11),
and combined it, than those 2 together fall just a little short of what
USC accomplished over these 7 years (02-08).

Those 7 years being the greatest 7 years in a row that any school has ever produced.
    IMO

Well, that is not true as well.

We have different values, customs and priorities regionally. But, we can show respect for all, rather we agree with the priority of those values or not...that is what makes life interesting.

  • USC for sure. USC was incredible under Pete Carroll. Perhaps some of these posters went to bed too early to witness some of those USC teams.

  • The only thing to envy is the fact Bama is reigning NC. But location, school degree, hot chicks, top recruiting class star power ratings last year, this year under sanctions which is very envious, now USC preseason #1 over the NC Bama.
