I don't know what a top 5 would be like but you can look at certain decades and pick out some pretty impressive runs.
1960's: Alabama
1970's: Michigan/OSU, Oklahoma
1980's: Miami
1990's: Florida State, Nebraska
2000's: USCYou could make arguments for any of those dynasties, but it doesn't really matter.

I agree Bama is the NC can't argue that and that Bama will be near the top for seasons to come but the envy of every team well that's USC. USC is LA, Hollywood, families vacation where we play football. USC is ranked #1 preseason poll with the 2013 recruiting class already considered the best in CFB. Sounds like USC is now everyone's favorite AGAIN. BAMA is a very close 2nd

That run was amazing, especially considering the losses were always first game of the year then you would roll, or wide vs another power

I think if you take Miami's 3 years in the early 2000's (2000-02),
and you take what Alabama has done the last 4 years (08-11),
and combined it, than those 2 together fall just a little short of what
USC accomplished over these 7 years (02-08).Those 7 years being the greatest 7 years in a row that any school has ever produced.

Are you kidding?
How about FSU 1993-2000? They won 2 NCs, played in 5 NC games, and finished top 5 every single year...and didn't get hit with sanctions for cheating while they did it.
How was USC 02-08 even remotely close to that?

USC 2002-2008
USC 82-9 .901 / FSU 77-8-1 .901
2 titles
3 title games/ could've been 5
3 Heismans in 4 years
Top 4 7 straight yearsUSC vs 3 loss or less AQ teams (86%)
FSU vs 3 loss or less AQ teams (77%)USC and FSU's #'s are quite similar, but what separates the 2 is the schedule IMO
1- FSU was playing 8 games a year vs ACC teams
2- USC had a better record against elite 3 loss or less AQ teams.
3- FSU lost 4 games by more than a touchdown in that 86 game span
USC played all 90 games never losing by more than 7 pts. From ND game of 01 to Oregon game of 09, USC set a record that might never be broken, by going
103 consecutive games (92-11), never losing a game by more than 7 pts.FSUTrackLoveFSU

Bobby Bowden's golden yrs shouldve produced way more than 2 NC's, but still..
Bowden's best yrs >>>>> Pete's, Sabans, Spurrier etc. And thats not a knock on anybody. FSU was just better than everybody else.
Miami was loaded in '01, but FSU had some crazy recruiting classes back then.
I lol at all these "best recruiting class ever" remarks nowadays. Bowden's squads were top to bottom deep and full of quality players, during his prime.
