  • Closest would probably be FSU and I would probably say Tennessee or Miami is the farthest away.

Damn that's a good question. I would personally say FSU and Texas. They don't have to deal with the consistent level of play that the others do and I don't think Golden is the answer at Miami.

In order from closest to furthest:
    1)FSU [possible this year]
2)Texas [possible this year or next]
3)UF [getting back, going to be tough]
4)OSU [getting back but obviously not this year]
    5)Miami [dumpster fire]
6)Tennessee [dumpster fire in the SEC]

Tennessee is probably the farthest away, even with Miami's pending infractions... (sorry shoeless...) cry

Of that list I'd agree. He left off ND which I think is just ahead of those 2

UCLA is considered a power? Just to put it in perspective, Utah has two more BCS victories than either UCLA, Pitt, or ND (although ND is a former power). I'd also have Georgia before either UCLA or Pitt.

Good list but I would put OSU above UF just due to UF playing in the SEC. The rest I would agree with exactly how you posted it.

  • Don't see how ND is closer than FSU. Noles have an elite defense and FSU will be playing an experienced QB next year. ND just lost one of their few defensive playmakers and has a QB controversy. They also lost their top offensive playmaker to the draft.

Some of the teams on this list like OSU, Texas, and Florida have had relative success not all that long ago. This question doesn't make much sense.

Also a good point but you can't just look at BCS years when looking at this list. Maybe that's what the OP was going at but I think he was thinking more traditional.

I mean they were pretty good in the 80s and 90s. Same with Pitt (who has quite a few NCs). Just was thinking of teams who were good at one point and now suck and how close are they to being back.

Literally nobody has put ND ahead of FSU in this entire thread.

Completely agree. FSU is in all reality leap years ahead of us, which will be a dominant team by the middle of this decade.

I don't disagree, but then "Power" is being defined too loosely. Technically, Stanford has more MNC's than UCLA. Pitt has one since WWII. Perhaps we can set better parameters for what is considered a "Power"?

If you're going to put Penn St., UF, Texas, and TOSU on there you have to put USC. Last time USC went was 2008, and three of those teams have gone more recently than USC.

Truth even though you couldn't have two of those years but you wouldn't have gone to a BCS bowl anyway during those two years (I don't think)

I would say USCw for this season but next year they fall off a bit, I sadly think next year will be the year we explode and I look for UF and Michigan to be right there with us... athough Michigan has a healthy argument for this season too

Defense will be insane again and offense will be loaded with upperclassmen NFL talent like we have only on defense really right now in terms of guys ready to leave ( seniors.... all the offense is young outside of EJ and the FB )

2013 will be the the year the Noles are seriously for real cause that OL will be coming into its own as juniors and seniors with Nick O, Freeman, Wilder, Pender, Coker, Winston, and Greene and so on all becoming of age experienced players

Big shit poppin.... little shit stopping

If we would've been eligible we could've beaten Oregon again for the PAC championship last year but who knows, so I'd still put us on here.

And to IrishImpact yes I love Kiffin. I understand why fans of other programs don't like him but he is a really innovative guy who knows how to lead. We should be in shambles right now.
